Bud Fairclo Home From Action in Mediterranean Sgt. Carroll "Bud" Fairclo, wearing the Distinguished Serv ice Cross, the Purple Heart, five cumpaign sturs and other serv ice ribbons, is back home after upending more than 18 months In the Mediterranean war theater. Fuirclo received his furlough orders on the Itaiion front when tho allied army wag still eight days from Rome, but said that he dldn t regret one bit not get ting to march into the Eternal City, that ho had seen all that ho wanted of Italy, especially the rain and mud. Attached to' an Infantry di vision, Sgt. Fairclo took part in ull the major engagements in North Africa and Italy, as signified by the five bronze stars, and he is still to receive another one. The DSC was pinned upon him by Gen. Mark Clark for special valor in cap turing a German pill box and four prisoners, in addition to sticking to his post even though wounded to aid in the destruc tion of other enemy fortifica tions.
