BILL APPROVED
WASHINGTON, June 23 Ml
House acceptance of a modified
ban ugalnsl political activity by
agriculture department employes
sent to the White House today
the $6(12,143,018 agriculture sup-
ly bill for the llacal year stari
ng July 1.
As worked out by a senate
house conference committee, the
political action clause prohibits
uso of any funds for tho salaries
of employes who violate the
Hatch anti-politics act for the
statute prohibiting legislative
activity, such as lobbying, by
government workers while on
government time.
In addition, it provides for
dismissal of any war food ad
ministration employe found,
after hearings, to have "demand
ed that a farmer join the triple
A program as a condition for
draft deferment or for the grant
ing of a priority certificate" for
gasoline or any other rationed
article.
The house originally wrote In
to the appropriations measure an
outright ban against any political
activity by agriculture depart
ment workers, but the senate
struck it out. This week the
house voted 210 to 123 to Insist
upon its retention.
