Altamont 4-H Club Meetings Scheduled There will be a meeting of both the Altamont 4-H rabbit and poultry clubs, as announced by Mrs. Harry Mcsnor, 2D56 Sum mers lane,, club leader. , Tho poultry club will meet on Wed nesday, May 24, at 2 p. m., and the rabbit club will meet Thurs day, May 29, at 2 P. m. Both meetings will be hold at the Alta mont Junior high school and all club mombors oro requested to nttond their respective mcotlngs. As was indicated, there was a vory small turnout ot tho last meetings held for these two clubs. It Is apparent that If a larger attendanco cannot be at tained for these announced meet ings, those two 4-H octlvltlos may hava to be discontinued. Port- the CO- com- yiii PIONEER LAKE COUNT DIES MONDAY Mrs. Fred Fostor. 73-vcnr-nld pioneer of Summer Luke, Lnko county, who made her homo for 83 years in southern Oregon, died at 1:45 p. m, Monday in a Pendleton hospital. Slio hud undergono major surgery and failed to recover. Mrs. Fosti-r was visiting at the homo of her (inuglilor, Mra. Carl M. Kwlng, ai ma limn. Born Ada McDowell, dauglv tnr of John and Fluvla Mc Dowell In Iron county. Missouri in tho year 1B08. tho child canio west with her mother and her grandparents, Zadok and Mo llsaa Harris In 1881. John Mc Dowell had died when Ada was four years old. The Harris family settled In tho Summer Luko valley and had some of the largest stock holdings in that area. In 16S7. Ada McDowell and Fred W. Foster wore married and Foster operated a stock ranch for many years Bt the Edge of Summer Luke. He died in 11)30. Mrs. Flavia McDowell one of the best known women of Luko county, died in 1032. mra. rosier was an acllvo mem ber of tho Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Foster hud four children. A son. Harold, died at March Field, Calif., in 1018 wlillo serving n Wor d War I Surviving are Mrs. Rubv Ewlnu of Pcndloton, Mrs. Cnrmcl Har- tin of Klamath Falls and a son, Guy, of Summer Lako. Mrs. roster was tho sister of Mrs W. B. (Avo) Barnes. 324 S. 5th, Klamath Falls, and spent the wlntor hero with the , Barnes family. Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. May 23 m A start was called today for a senate Investigation of the farm machinery situation, with Sen ator Bushficld (R-S.D.) asking an official explanation of a report tnat equipment aorely needed here has been "gathering dust" in north African warehouses for a year. Bushficld said a civilian gov ernment official, stationed in North Africa, had told him of seeing "two big warehouses filled with new American-made combines and other farm ma chinery which had been In stor age for at least a year." Naaded Hr "This was at a time when farmers in this country were crying for combines to harvest their crops," Bushfield said. "Farmers haven't got a third of tho machinery they need." The extent to which farm ma chinery has been shipped to pther nations through lend-lease and the United Nations relief and, rehabilitation administration la one of the chief points to be covered 'in the Inquiry, to be conducted by an agriculture sub committee under tho chairman ship of Senator Gillette (D-Ia.).
