PFC Pohll is a graduate of Chlloquin high school with the class of 1042. McAllister Acts as Oregon's Governor For Three Hours SALEM, Sept. 7 W William M. McAllister, Medford, speak er of tho state house of repre sentatives, became acting gover nor of Oregon today for the first time, serving about three hours. McAllister became governor when William H. Steiwer, Fos sil, senato president who is act ing in behalf of Governor Earl Snell, crossed the state line into Washington to inspect the Kaiser shipyard In Vancouver. ' Since the building is not yet quite completed, school has not begun at Weyerhaeuser camp 6 near Beatty, but classes should begin soon. This is the first year that that locality ha had a school at alK School has been temporarily postponed at Weyerhaeuser camp 4 because of the illness of the teacher. No Instructor has a yet been assigned the teaching post at Beatty, holding up the begin ning of classes in that commu nity. Pelican Bay camp, still In the process of moving is not yet settled enough, to have started regular school. A "kickoff" radio program for the Third War Loan drive will go on the air over KFJI tonight (Tuesday) at 7:30 p. m., lt was announced by John Hous ton, chairman of radio and special event for the big war bond campaign. Houston said there will be musical numbers and special fea tures. E. B. Hall, general chair man of the campaign, will be on tho program. Any organizations desiring to buy bonds at this time are wel come to telephone the radio sta tion with their pledges for broad cast on the program, Houston stated. The nation's Labor Day week end death toll swelled by one of the worst disasters In Amer ican railroad history and a hotel fire today appeared to have ap proached, if not surpassed, last year's total of 390 fatalities. Although traffic, drowning and miscellaneous deaths and the hotel fire accounted for only 28S lives over the three-day holi day, a complete list of those killed in the wreck of the Con gressional Limited at Philadel phia may bring the total above the 1842 figure. Train Crash Early today 62 were known dead in the Pennsylvania rail road erash at Philadelphia, but city officials there said the total would be much higher, one esti mating it at ISO. Members of her climb ing party notified forest service guides who recovered her body after a six-hour search, Soldiers Die Five soldiers from the Walla Walla air base died of injuries from the collision of their auto mobile with an army truck near Arlington. None were Oregon men. Edwin M, Rambeau, 60, Cur tin, and Zoyd L. Smith, 24, Mon mouth, were killed in an automobile-truck collision near Oak land, Ore. Freda Pearl Smith, 22, sister of Smith, was taken to a Roseburg hospital in critical condition. George Winchester, 16-year-old cyclist, was fatally injured on the Columbia River highway near St. Helens. Chester A. Strouse, 36, was killed by the discharge of a .22 caliber pistol he was removing from the glove compartment of his automobile at his home in Shevlin.
