Bunnell of West Klam alh. Young Bun ncll Is now sta 1 1 o n e d some where In the Middle East: "Here Is an other little note Just to mention that everything Is all right There Isn't any thing to worry about because things are now pretly snfe, The going was and Is kind of rough, but those things are unimpor tant. But whut I really wanted to say Is, don't worry or feel sorry for me. I'll be all right. I'm off to help In one of the most Important Jobs a fellow will ever bo asked to do, and Unit's fighting for the good old UbA. I don t mean the Amer ica we studied about In school, In history books, etc. That Isn't tho America I'm going to de fend. America to me la the townslte we live on, the guys I have worked with, the people next door, tho millions of peo pie like us. Catholic, Prote stant, or what have you that's my America. "Furthermore, I don't want anyone to touch my America. I don't want anyone to tell me Oregon isn t mine any moro. I don't want to see our homo dc stroyed. I don't want our home touched in fact, I am glad I'm here, and will go wherever they send mo and be most will ing. I don't mind being sent thousands of miles across tho enm I unuM mtllinn tlm ! rather fight the enemy on his own soil than on mine. As long as I have anything to do with It, you will never hear what an enemy bomb sounds like and you will never see what an enemy tank look like. We'll keep our landscapo clean and quiet. The men who know say that this Is a big war, but 1 1 have my way of looking at it. I see it as quite a little war. It Is no bigger than my heart. It takes in you, dad, Gloria, Babe and all my sisters and brothers, the home we live In, Bishops and Kennedys next door, my friends; so that's not a big war. "Yet, maybe it Is at that Maybe It really la bigger than the biggest country and the wid est ocean. But I guess what we are really fighting for is for love, for our folks, for sisters and brothers, for tho friendly light shining In tho front room window. These aro my America "So don't you sit around wor- rvlnir nr ffrlniMni, fnr mn 1C.n ' 'j - m - - - - " - ...... - - a grin on your face and a song In your heart for America. Just remember as long as I'm thou sands of miles away, so is the enemy. And this is his back doorstep I'm on, and he's not I on ours. It's Just the- way we intend to keep it.
