The agriculture department said
today young chickens raised on
farms in 1943 reached an all.
time peak estimated at 923,828,
000 birds.
This was 18 per cent larger
than the previous high of last
year and 36 per cent above the
1932-41 average.
The Increase - in chickens
raised this year, the department
said, was caused by the favorable
relationship between chicken
and egg prices and feed prices.

on an area embracing about 640
acres within Section 31, T. 38
S., R. 6 E., W. M., Rogue Biver
National Forest, Oregon, esti
mated to be 800,000 feet B. M.,
more or less, of live and dead
Douglas-fir, and 2,000,000 feet
B. M., more or less, of -white
firt and an unestimated amount
or ponderosa pine, wmte pine,
sugar pine, shasta fir, incense
cedar and other species of saw
timber to be cut at the option
of the purchaser. No bid of
less than $2.60 per M feet for
Douglas-fir, $1.05 per M feet for
white fir, $7.00 per M feet for
ponderosa pine, $$.00 per M feet
for sugar pine, and $0.95 per
M feet for shasta fir,- incense
cedar and other species of saw
timber, will be considered. In
determining the high bid, - the
rates for Douglas-fir and white
fir only will be, considered. In
addition to the prices bid for
the stumpage, a cooperative de
posit of $0.50 per M feet, B. ,M.,
to be used by the Forest Service
for paying the cost of slash dis
posal, and a cooperative deposit
of $0.15 per M feet B. M, to
cover the cost of tree planting,
seed sowing, and timber stand
improvement work on the area
cut over, for the total cut of
timber under the terms of the
agreement, - will be required.
$3,000 must accompany each bid,
to be applied on the purchase
price, refunded or retained in
part as liquidated damages, ac
cording ' to conditions of sale.
The right to reject any and all
bids Is reserved. Before bids
are submitted, full information
concerning the timber, the con
