OREGON July 22, 1 043 - Charter members of the Ki wanis club were honored at Thursday noon's meeting, fol lowed by a talk by Lieutenant Governor Archlo Vaughan on the Kiwanis International program for the coming year. Charter members present were Dr. G. A. Massey, Dr. L. D Gass, John Houston and James Kerns, A large birthday cake was cut after Rev. L. K. Johnson had made a short talk Honoring the charter members. Vaughan said the Kiwanis program this year will be based on the slogan, "Keep America American." He said that the or ganization's work will be slant ed to uphold democratic prin ciples and to combat fundamen tal changes in the form of U. S government. Dr. Masscy was chairman of the day. The Kiwanians bade farewell to Don Drury, member of the club who is leaving soon for Mexico City. Mussolini has wired his sol diers in Sicily that he is with them in spirit. Landis Proposes Air Raid Shelters " WASHINGTON, July 22 Too many people are "milling around", street comers of big American cities when air raid test alarms sound, said James F. Landis, director of civilian defense, in proposing today that more shelter areas be provldod.
