RATION BOARD SLASHES OPEN OFFICE HOURS Office hours of the war price and rationing board have been cut because of the enormous amount of renewals of ration books. The office will be open at Main and Esplanade from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 10 a m. to 2p.m. on Saturday. The new hours will go into effect July 1. Purpose of the change is to Increase the effic iency of the office staff rather than to keep the public out longer. If it Is found that the office can be kept open longer after some of the renewals have been taken care of, this will be done. II FUNDS BET WASHINGTON, June 30 (IP) The senate passed Tuesday a $1,- 238,000,000 labor-federal secur ity appropriations bill contain ing $48,800,0000 in funds for the National Youth administra tion (NYA) which the- house previously votrU to liquidate. Senator Clark (D-Mo.) aband oned plans to seek another vote on the NYA amendment which the senate added to the measure yesterday by a count of 41 to 37. Final passage was by voice vote. The measure goes back to the house and a joint confer ence committee for an effort to reconcile differences . between the two chambers before the fiscal year's deadline tomorrow midnight. Wuppertal Fires Still Blazing After RAF Raid Thursday STOCKHOLM, June 30 OP) Dispatches to the Goeteborg newspaper Handels Och Sjoef artstidning said today that 1342 persons had been killed in the massed RAF raid on the Elber feld section of Wuppertal, im ' portant' Ruhr industrial city, last Thursday night. -The city was reported to be still without water, gas, elec tricity, or telephone service. Great fires were reported blar ing more than 24 hours after the raid upon the chemical and textile works there. The Elberfeld railway station was reported half destroyed and the concentrated bombing of narrow, restricted areas also resulted in a large number of wounded. Woodburn Escapees Sought Near Canby PORTLAND, June 30 (IP) Two youthful escapees from the Woodburn training school were sought today in the Canby area where they abandoned a stolen car last night after colliding with an automobile driven by Clay ton Yoder, Canby. Yoder suffered a lacerated arm. State police officers John D'Angelo and Clayton Tomlin , identified the escapees as James Copeland, 13, Grants Pass, and Jimmie Greenslitt, 14, Oregon City. Asylum Escapee Caught at Home SALEM, June 30 (P) Thomas Bruce Mitchell, 58, who escaped from the Oregon State hospital at noon yesterday, was caught last night at his mother's home at Albany. Ralph Grecnslipp, 14, and James Copeland, 13, who es caped from the state training school at Woodburn yesterday, were still at large today. July 4th and Sth holds a lot of thrills and fun with plenty of rodeo flavor. Many local cowboys are compet ing in various contests and races. Race goers will have a chance to do a bit of wagering and listen to the pounding hoofs of some prize horse flesh. Entries are coming in daily from all parts of the country. Moye brothers of Y r e k a, Calif., unloaded a couple of nice fillies today with another due in tomorrow. Webb Kennett got the racing fever in his blood and will start breezing his horses with plenty of good old competi tive spirit. The track Is in good shape and with four races scheduled daily should go a long way to wards cheering those melan choly souls who mourn the pass ing of the bangtails at Santa Anita. On July 4th and Sth, Klamath Falls gets it's exciting taste of horse racing. Much interest has always been aroused over the words "They're off!" Ever since the earliest days, horses have been extremely popular, but it is well to remember there are three sides to a race my pick, your pick, and the winner. SOCE Student Body President Reports For Navy Training SOUTHERN OREGON COL LEGE OF EDUCATION, Ash land, June 30 Dean Jones of Klamath Falls, student body president at the Southern Ore gon College of Education during the past year, has been called to report to the University of Washington to take up military training. Vernon Kolen of Marshfield, who was elected to serve next year as student body president, has also been ordered to the University of Washington. With the same group of SOCE students will go Hal Jewett of Central Point. All three boys have been enlisted for some time in the navy reserve and waiting orders to report for training.
