PAGE EIGHT Birthday Party Given Mrs. Jacobson Guest Of Honor at Party Given on Thursday Mr. Axel Jacobson was suest of honor at a surprise birthday party given for her Thursday, June the twenty fourth, at two o'clock in the afternoon by Mrs. Ruben John-son,- Mrs. John Berg and Mrs. Pete Hedberg. As guests sang verses of "Showers of Blessings," gifts were brought in to be opened by the honor guest. Delicious refreshmenta were served at four o'clock. Friends who gathered at the Jacobson home were Mrs. Os car Olson, Mrs. Carl Carlson, Mrs. Fred Lekberg. Mrs. Ar thur Lind, Mrs. Hulda Jorgen son, Mrs. Albert Clawson, Mrs. Paul Norseth, Mrs. Peter Eastman, Mrs. Carl Lindbergh, Mrs. Vergil Nelson, Mrs. Fred Goeller, Mrs. David Reinold son. Miss Grace Bordal, Miss Nancy Berg, Miss Eva Rae Jacobson, Mrs. Ruben John son, Mrs. Jacobson, the honor guest and the hostesses. STINGERETTES AND AUXILIARY HAVE LUNCHEON On Thursday, June the twenty-fourth, the Stinger ettes and the ladies' auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Rail road Trainmen met in the K C hall for a potluck luncheon. It had been planned for Moore park but weather conditions prevented. Luncheon was serv ed at half past twelve o'clock, followed by a business meet ing. The club voted to hold a large public card party on Oc tober the twenty-eighth, the proceeds to go to the lodge, and each member is to spon sor a table. Mrs. A. A. Myers will be chairman and will be assisted by Mrs. Harry Sacket, Mrs. John Pex, Mrs. Merrill Kious, and Mrs. Harry Roman. Enjoying the luncheon and the afternoon were Mrs. Mer rill Kious and two daughters, Mrs. John Pex and daughter, Mrs. Harry Sacket, Mrs. M. R. Messer and grand daughter, Mrs. Paul Home and daugh ter, Mrs. Lawrence Farrow and son, Mrs. Archie Coch rane and two sons, Mrs. Earl Snyder, Mrs. Homer Caldwell and son, Mrs. A. A. Myers, one new member, Mrs. Harry Roman, and two guests, Mrs. Nathan Gale with her son and Miss Yvonne Miles of Ashland, a sister of Mrs. Paul Home. The next meeting, July the twenty-second, will be a pot luck picnic in Moore park, weather permitting. LUTHERAN LADIES ENJOY AFTERNOON An enjoyable afternoon was had on June the seventeenth by the ladies of the Zion Lutheran church and their friends at the home of Mrs. Walter Zetzman of Reclama tion avenue. All of the ladies having birthdays the first half of the year were hostesses to the oth er ladies. A luncheon was served at one o'clock after which a "grab-bag" dress ex change made a very unique costume party. A clever play was presented by three of the young ladies, Evelyn Roem hildt, Ora Mei Eberlein, and Eleanor Buser. The rooms were artistically decorated with blue and white iris and columbine. MERLE KNAEBLE CELEBRATES FIFTH BIRTHDAY. BLY Merle Annette Knae ble, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Knaeble of Bly, cele brated her fifth birthday on Wednesday, June the six teenth. Several of her little friends were invited in for the afternoon. ' . KANDRA-DAY ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED ' The engagement was an nounced in Corvallis recently of Lawson Lewis Kandra, son of Lewis Kandra of Merrill, to Miss Dorothy Day, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Day of Salem. Mr. Kandra graduated from Oregon State college this year, and he was affiliated with Theta Chi fraternity. He will go soon to Fort Sill, Ok lahoma, where he will take officers training. No definite date has been set for the wedding. MRS. JOHNSON '. Women Installed ' Merrill Women of the Moose Welcome New Officers MERRILL Women of the Moose, Merrill chapter No. eighteen met Tuesday evening in the Merrill Library club room with Esther Sevcy pre siding. Three new candidates, Mrs. Ray, Mrs. Carr and Mrs. Mat tson were initiated and wel comed. But some times there's a wait, and sometime they do not get through at all. Mr. Long gavo two musical numbers on his electric guitar which were much enjoyed, and Mrs. Vic tor Phillips and Mrs. John Yadon presented their reports on the recent Oregon confer ence. 'Mrs. C, H. Barnstable, who also attended tho confer ence, was unable to bo pres ent at this meeting to give her report. Clrclo Five, whose chair man Is Mrs. Kelly, served tea after tlje meeting, tho tea table being attractive with red, white and blue flowers, while the porlors were decor ated with rhododendrons brought from the north. A reception will be given next Wednesday evening In the church purlors at eight o'clock welcoming Rev. and Mrs. Victor Phillips and their daughter Lois who returned with them from Willamette university.
