Prosecutor Fred B. Cohen said the shooting occurred during the night at Silverdale and was dis covered when Mrs. jjc naven came , home about 2 a. m., and heard the child moaning. Two soldiers took the child to a Brem erton hospital where she suc cumbed at 8 a. m. The De Havens were divorced last Monday. Mrs. De Haven ehnreed cruelty and that De Haven had threatened to kill her and the child. Prosecutor Cohen said the lit tle victim's maternal grand mother, a Mrs. Plummcr, told authorities that she was awak ened by a noise last night, called downstairs and was answered by De Haven. She said he told her he had a letter for Mrs. Dc Haven. II f xplrH Japanese Alarmed Over American Plane Building LONDON, April 29 OF The Berlin radio said today the Jap anese have reported the United States is speeding construction of a giant Alaskan alrbase for "more than a thousand four-engine bombers" and declared "It is assumed in Tokyo that the Americans Intend to attack the Japanese mainland via the Aleu tian and Kurile islands." There was no allied confirma tion of such construction. Recorded by The Associated Press, the broadcast said that the "enemy's preparations are ob served in Japanese quarters with the greatest attention as Ameri can statements of future bom bardments of Japanese territory are taken absolutely seriously." Gasoline-Filled Fire Extinguishers Found in Ship Hold PORTLAND. Ore., April 29 lP) Discovery of five fire ex tinguishers filled with gasoline in the hold of a ship during fire there was reported today by Edawrd Grenfell, Portland fire chief. Grenfell said a small fire broke out in the hold of the ship during construction in the Al- bina Engine and Machine Works yard. A workman turned an ex tinguisher on the flames. They flared violently when the liquid reached them. The blaze was ex tinguished by other means. At that time ten years ago there were four troops of 44 girls; today there are 42A girls and 24 troops, with 08 adult workers. This l a substantial Increase over last year. The local council hns toduy under its Jurisdiction Klamath Falls, Altamont, Modoe Point, and Henley. The troops at Mor rill, Malln, Sprague River, Bly and Tulelake are known as lone troops. These are under the supervision of Mrs, J. P. Wells, regional director.
