STATE li CO IE TAX COLLECTION SHOWS BOOST SALEM, Jan.- 7 (P) Oregon's income tax collections ' during 1942 totaled a record high mark of $13,800,000, compared with $8,027,000 in 1941, the previous record, State Tax Commissioner Earl E. Fisher said Wednesday. - Fisher said, however, he doubted that collections in 1943 would exceed those of last year, despite vastly increased Incomes. The reason for this, he explain ed, is that big federal Income taxes will reduce state income tax payments by at least 30 per cent, pregon allows the federal tax to be deducted from the state tax. . . Reduce Propert? Tax The legislature, which meets next Monday, will have a sur plus of more than $4,000,000, in come tax -receipts exceeding ap propriations by more than that amount. There is doubt,- though. tnat this surplus can be spent, as the constitution . apparently will compel that the surplus bo used for reduction of ''property taxes. ' : The legislature probably will use the surplus to reduce local property taxes, as the Income tax law provides that income taxes be used to reduce prop erty taxes.
