Tho tank hunters are so tougb that they claim to start their training where tho Commandos and Rangers leave off. Not only do the busters shoot from the hip, but they actually hurl their socks through the sides of tanks. REALLY UNDER FIRE The Black Panther troops al so train under the fire of live ammunition. At Camp Hood, Tex., machine guns flro two feet above the ground ai tho destroy er men roll out of slit trenches and crawl through barbed wire entanglements across an open field. A 25-mlle hike is regarded merely as a constitutional by the destroyer men they clip off nine miles In two hours. They re the only U. S. troops who are taught to. shoot from the hip in good old western style. They have target practice in a pitch black tunnel and they aim at sounds a rattle' of a bayonet scabbard or a whisper. In the dark, with tommy guns and .45 caliber revolvers, the de stroyers hit their unseen tar gets 60 per cent of the time. In the daylight, firing at targets which appear unexpectedly at windows and in doorways, they arc 80 per cent accurate. In ad dition, they learn to fire mach ine guns, anti-aircraft guns, 75 mm. cannon and 105-mm. howit lers. The howitzers are mounted on the M-5 tank destroyer, one of the army's newest weapons. The M-S is built on the chassis of a tank. It sacrifices armor for speed and mobility. Its Job is to lurk in ambush for tanks, hurl shells and race away before the enemy can close for battle. Once enemy tanks have been spotted, the buster gives them no rest. Each battalion has a com pany of stalkers who work at night. IN BAY CITY COURT SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 16 W) Two men were convicted in Ju venilo court Tuesday of contrib uting to tha delinquency of two young runaway gins from Port land. They were D. Homer Spencer, Klamath Falls, Ore., business man, and Russell Shores, 20, or chestra member. The girls were 12 and 13 years old. They said they were enter tained in various night clubs and bars around the city. Both Spencer and Shores ask ed for probation. Judge Thomas F. Foley said he would rule on the probation pleas January 11. The jury acquitted Elmo F. Cozza, 21, a musician, who went to trial with the other two men. Enlargement of Assessor's Office Gets Underway Enlargement of the Klamath county assessor's office In the southwest corner of the main floor of the courthouse is now underway. The offico will be expanded to includo the quarters formerly occupied by the sheriff, who has moved to the second floor. This more than doubles tho space to be given to tho assessor, and the various record machines used by the assessor's office will be moved into tho expanded quar ters. The machines heretofore have been kept in a small room across the hall. Sawmill Starts After Shutdown WILLOW RANCH The saw mill started again Monday after a three-week shutdown from shortage of logs. Trucks are now hauling logs from camp across the lake by Lakeview. The distance is about 45 miles. They hope to make two trips a day. with dynamite, dip them in a bucket of tar or some other sticky substance, insert a 30-sec-ond fuse and hurl them against the sides of tanks.
