BIG SALARIES
OKEHK FOR '42
WASHINGTON, Nov. 0 (IP)
The treasury hag ruled, In effect,
that Hoilywood'i big salar
ies may continue to the end of
1042 without regard to the szo
000-a-year-llmlt.
The motion picture salary sit
uation was not mentioned speci
fically in the ruling but it fol
lowed protests from Hollywood
against a previous decree Inter-
pretcd there as meaning that no
one could be paid more wages In
1942 than ha received in 1041,
of more than 28,00P net, which
ever is the larger sum,
There are many in' Hollywood
who already have netted at least
$28,000 so far this year and one
point raised was.whother they
could be. forced to fulfill their
contracts at no added com pen
satlon.
Specifically, the treasury said
today that 1042 salaries In excess
of 1941 salaries are permissible,
when such 1042 salaries are re
quired by a bona fide contract
promulgated before; October 4,
1042.

BUY MORE WAR BONDS
When Gasoline
Rationing Comes-
When guollne ntioning comes, you will probably have to Hop
driTtng long distances, and you may be planning to travel by train
insteat? .
Ordinarily, of course, any railroad would be delighted at the pro
pact of a lot of new customers, but these are not ordinary times, and
. we are frankly worried about what the consequences of gasoline
rationing may be, '.v,
We are carrying hundreds of thousands of troops, and there has
already been a big increase in civilian travel because of the war. ;
So far we think we have done a pretty good job. But there is a limit
to our present capacity, and we cannot buy new passenger cars be
cause of the shortage of critical materials. Nor can we operate extra
sections or special trains. "
10 WE SUGGESTS . ' - ' . ' ,..''V
1. PleecnottravelunleMyoufeelyouh"avegood,soundreasona
. for doing so. - .
2. Travel during the middle of the week instead of on week-ends.
3. Please buy your rail and Pullman tickets well in advance of the
day you leave.
4 If plans change, please cancel your Pullman space promptly so
somebody else can use it .
5. Us Pullman space to its maximum capacity. If you reserve a
bedroom, compartment or drawing room, share it with friends
.or business acquaintances (and share the expense). '
6 Buy round trip rickets. Buy your return reservations at the
same time. ,
7 Travel light, and take into the train with you only the luggage
you actually need ion the train. Check the rest 24 hours in
. advance, if possible, to avoid delay ;
' ' If we all cooperate, it will help to avoid any
necessity of rationing train; travel, too ; , .
