Government Asks Civilians to Curtail Travel WASHINGTON, June 19 UP) The government asked today that all state and county fairs, non-essential conventions, meet ings and group tours be post poned until the war la over. Joseph B. Eastman, defense; transportation director, made tho appeal and said that If civilians restricted their use of trains and buses the government might not ! have to take direct control overj travel. If you wish to substitute syrup for part of the sugar to make the sugar can more fruit, use 3 13 cupa corn syrup and 3 23 cups sugar with 1 gallon of water less a cup for the same sweetness. Substituting honey for part of the sugar, use 2 23 cups hon ey; 2 23 cups sugar to 1 gallon water less 23 cup. The use of honey In canning gives a distinct honey flavor to the fruit The greater propor tion of honey to fruit, the great er tho flavor of honey. Fruit may be canned without sugar but the product would not be appetizing. Sugar is not nec essary for keeping qualities, but It is necessary for good texture and natural color. Even by add ing a large amount of sugar af ter opening, the flavor would not be as good as if It had been canned with a small amount of sugar.
