FDR RECOVER!
NEW YORK, March 18. (P)
The stock market was unable to
day to rekindle the bullish spark
that animated yesterday's deal
ings and prices dipped fractions
to about a point all along the
line.
Again the war news was more
heartening, particularly the
Washington communique telling
of heavy Japanese naval losses
under American-Australian air
attacks, but it failed to generate
any notable buying interest.
International Harvester drop
ped about 3 points on the dis
closure of plans for the public
sale of 250,000 shares out of the
state of interests long identified
with the management.
Also on the offside were U. S.
Steel, Bethlehem, General Mo
tors, Chrysler, Sears Roebuck,
United Aircraft, Douglas West
inghouse, DuPont, Union Car
bide, General Electric, American
Can, Standard Oil (NJ), and
Texas company.

SELLING IN RYE
UNSETTLES WHEAT
CHICAGO. March 18 () An
outbreak of stop loss selling in
rye futures during the final hour
unsettled the wheat market to
day and prices of the bread cer
eals declined.
Feeding grains, however, held
fairly steady, with a car of top
grade white corn selling at $1 a
bushel in the spot market, high
est since 1937.
Selling of May rye contracts
touched off the downturn in
that pit. Prices broke more than
3 cents before liquidating orders
could be satisfied and sufficient
support appeared to check the
decline and rally the market
slightly.
Relaxing of government regu
lations to permit harvest of much
of the volunteer wheat in the
southwest was a factor in the
wheat pit.
Wheat closed -3 cent lower
than yesterday. May $1,281-1,
July $1.30i; corn unchanged to
Ic lower. May 88-88Jc, July
901-ic; oats unchanged to 1c
