PAGE SIX Gay Christmas Tea Party Event Mrs. McConnell and Mrs. Pike Entertain With Pre-holiday Party at Pelican A lovely silver platter filled with crimson poinsettlas cen tered the tea table at the party given Friday afternoon by Mrs. Edward Hall Pike and Mrs. Avis McConnell In the party room of the Pelican from three to five o'clock. Tall white candles in silver candlesticks and silver tea sen-ices completed the appointment at the party which was one of the largest of pre-holiday affairs. Holly, polnsettias, and bright Christmas balls placed effectively in branches of cone laden pines were used throughout the large room. Pouring during the first hour were Mrs. Frank Jen kins and Mrs. Harlan P. Basworth Jr, and during the second hour Mrs. E. A. Geary and Mrs. Nelson Reed presid ed at the tea table. Mrs. Wil fred E. Lamm and Mrs. Rose Poole poured the last hour of the afternoon. Assisting about the rooms were Mrs. George H. Merry man Sr., and Mrs. George H. Merryman Jr., Mrs. Delbert Addison, Mrs. Howard Barn hisel, Mrs. William E. Gan ong, Mrs. Prentice E. Yeo mans, Mrs. Fred Schallock, Mrs. Howard Pen-in and Mrs. Luclle Warner. SORORITY HOLDS MEET THURSDAY EVE Kappa chapter. Beta Sigma Phi, held its regular meeting on Thursday evening, Decem ber eleventh, at the Willard hotel. Mrs. Arthur Moore, president of Kappa chapter, presided during the business meeting, at which time plans were discussed for social events to be held this month. On Tuesday evening, De cember sixteenth, Kappa chapter will hold its annual birthday party and Christmas party, which will be a for mal dinner at the Willard hotel, at half past seven o'clock. At this time Kappa will observe its fifth birth day, having been organized in Klamath Falls in 193S. Following the dinner a gift exchange will be held. Mrs. Charles Kaler was In charge of the cultural pro gram, the theme of which was "Happiness Through Control of Self, - and Environment." Members present marked self analysis charts, and a discus sion of the above subject fol lowed. V':' ' PARTY CHAIRMAN Mrs. Nell Olson is serving as chairman of the Christmas party which will be given Monday evening at the Willard hotel by the Klamath, Falls chapter of Business and Professional Wom en's, clubs. : - Kennell-Ellls, Pioneers Have Dinner Schoolmates Meet for Holiday Party at Grizzle's A group of pioneer women of Klamath county who- long ago organized the Schoolmates club, met for an enjoyable af ternoon Friday at the home of Mrs. George Grizzle, 927 Jef-: ferson street, when a turkey dinner was served followed by the traditional Christmas tree and exchange of gifts. A delightful surprise of the ' day was the arrival of two women whom club members had not seen for more than forty years, Maude Graves Stuber, and Clara Graves By bee, both of Lakeview, who drove over to spend the day with old friends. The women attended the old frame Cen tral school, now standing at Tenth and Pine streets, and many were the reminiscences Indulged by the group. Miss Daggett to Wed in Puerto Rico Invitations to Ceremony in Famous Old El Moro Chapel Received by Friends Here Invitations to the wedding of Miss Marijane Daggett, daughter of Mrs. Claude H. Daggett and the late Mr. Daggett of this city, and Mr. George Flitcraft, were received in Klam ath Falls this week. The ceremony will take place December the seventeenth in tho famous old El Moro in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Mr. Daggett and her two daughters, Marijane and Car oline, left from Berkeley, Cal ifornia, Thursday by train for Miami, Florida from where they will go by plane to Ponce. If present lans are completed. Miss Daggett and Mr. Flitcraft will be mar ried the day of her arrival. Mr. Flitcraft has been with the government weather bu reau in Puerto Rico but more recently has been stationed at Losey field, 47th air base. Mrs. Daggett and Caroline will return to Berkeley Jan uary the fourth in time Caroline to resume her stu dies at Armstrong's. AAUW Study Group Plans Meeting Members of the Consumer Problems and Nutrition study group of the American Asso ciation of University Women will meet Monday evening at eight o'clock at the home of Miss Virginia Reid and Miss Ellen Stadius, 520 North Tenth street. OREGON PLANS MADE FOR PRESIDENT'S BIRTHDAY BALL Plans are now being made for the annual ball In honor of President Franklin D. Roose velt's birthday and Mr. Sam uel P. Miller will serve as chairman for the fourth con secutive year. Date for the ball has been set for Saturday evening, January the thirty-first, in the armory, Mr. Miller announced. Dr. E. T. Hedlund of Portland serves as chairman of the state, Mr. Carl Donaugh, vice chairman. Members of the committees will be announced soon by Mr. Miller. Proceeds will .go toward the national and local fight against infan tile paralysis. Dinner was served In the Willard hotel ballroom to the University Wonion in formal dreas at Christ mas tables decorated with holiday green and candles. Led by Mrs. C. A. Henderson and accompanied by Mrs, Sam Mush en, the group sang Christmas songs. A savings stamp book was received by Mrs. nobert Thompson. Following this the dramatics depart ment of Klamath Union high school gave a preview of their com ing radio skit which was high ly amusing. Miss Flora was the script writer and Mrs. B. B. Blomqulst was coach. During the Interlude follow ing, Mrs. Godfrey Blohm conducted- a brief business meeting. Mrs. Robert Hart an nounced that there were now one hundred and three mem bers of AAUW and called attention to the list of mem bers which Miss Hutli Dun ning had prepared for the group. Mrs. Hart also an nounced that she hud organ ized a group to sew for tho Red Cross and would be glad to hear from others who wished to Join or form other groups. Tho visitors and new members were then Intro duced, and the new members received attractive holiday corsages. In the next announcement Mrs. J. Truman Runyan re quested help for the Santa Ciaus party for children De cember twenty-first. She ask ed for donations of money or services from Individual mem bers. Santa Claus was next on the program, a person of mys terious identity who enter tained the club with timely and amusing comments on Santa's relation to world af fairs. Ho distributed "whito elephant" gifts to every one present. In each case giving just what the recipient asked for. As a final feature of tho lively program Mr. Guy Bates sang two numbers: 'The Wan derer," by Shubert, and "Hills." He was accom panied by Mrs. D. E. Van Voctor. The remainder of the eve ning was spent playing brldgo and "Gin Rummy." Mm. Thompson, who is suspected to be Santa Claus, won high honors in bridge. Miss Ellen Stadius received high honors.
