O. Myer wa reported and a get-well card, signed by all present, was sent to him. Mrs. Betty Allen of Hurlan drive became a new member of the organization. The next meeting wa an nounced for September the tenth at the home of Mrs. Alice Gray, 2433 Union street. Members are requested to bring their own table service and card table. Merry Mixers Are Entertained The Merry Mixers club met Thursday evening ot the home of Mrs. Alberta Allen, 2481 Orchard strcot, when a shorty business meeting was prcsld- cd over by Mrs, Dee Salyer, the president. A towel shower was presented to the hostess. SUAI1 PROJECT OF GIRLS ENDED 5PRAGUE KIVEK A sum mer project was terminated Wed nesday when the Sprague River Brownie Girl Scout troop met at the home of their leader, Mrs. Roy Fennlng, to complete the troop flower book. Throughout the summer months the members have searched places around Sprague River for different flowers. These flowers were studied, treated and placed In largo book. Tho flowers were first pressed, then placed in the book with transparent cellophane tape. The Sprague River district could grow almost any kind of the us ual flower bed plants. A short season has discouraged planting many varieties. It is hoped the project will stir interest in rais ing more flowers In the area. After the meeting, games were ployed and refreshments were served. Midland Man at Missouri Army Post. . MIDLAND Clifford Welch, who became a private In the army the first part of August, is now stationed Indefinitely at Jef ferson barracks, St. Louts, Mo. Welch enlisted in the air corps department. EWSTOREOP AT SPRAGUE BIVER SPRAGUE RIVER Mr, and Mrs. Gene Merritt have recent ly opened a new variety store in Sprague River in the build ing recently occupied by the Heidrich' furnishings store. In addition to a complete line ot school supplies and variety ar ticle the Merritta wilt offer one of the most complete lines of newspapers and magazines to be found in the region. Merritt was. co-proprietor of the Ideat department store here but ill health forced him to re tire from the business. After an extended vacation he an nounces that he will attempt to develop a thriving business to meet the need of this fast growing mill town. The Mer ritt are building living quar ters at the rear of the business building. In passing, Merritt an nounced that he was already selling over 75 copie of The Klamath New 'daily. Sew and Rip Club, Meets at Park Mrs. B. G. Pinncll of Bristol avenue entertained the Sew and Rip sewing circle Friday, August 22, at Moore park. NUTH1TI0N TALKED BY DEFENSE UNIT The organization meeting of the Lake county nutrition com mittee for defense wa held in Lakcvlew Thursday, August 28. Mary Beile Beswlck, home man agement supervisor for the farm security administration In Klam ath and Lake counties was named chairman, and Mis Mil dred Biaekburne, Lake county welfare administrator, was named secretary. Attending were representa tives of the FSA, county health organization, state health organ ization, county schools, "welfare committee, Women's club, ex tension department, 4 H clubs and the county Judge. - This nutrition committee is part of the national defense pro gram, headed by Paul V. Mc Nutt. The objects of the county committee are to coordinate the efforts of ail organizations with in a county on nutritional prob lem so the health and welfare of the people will be improved through better nutritional prac tices. The county nutrition com mittees hope to promote wider distribution and utilization ot inexpensive foods of high nu tritional value, and the use of larger amount of protective foods, and to encourage food habit which will improve the diet of all Income levels. The Lake county committee agree that more emphasis shall be placed on-thc school lunch program in that area. Miss Bes wlck called the next meeting for 10 a. m., September 17. According to employes of the forest service who work in the forests, the deer will ave rage from 50 to 60 pounds heav ier than last season.
