GAYNOR MADDOX NEA Service Staff Writer Here comes the brlriell The occasion calls for a beau tiful table, something always to be remembered. For only a few cents and a few hours time, you can make at home a lovely table arch with wedding bells and orange blossoms. Wedding Table ARCH; For the base cut a strip of white cardboard 8 Inches wide and 22 Inches long. Cover top side with a strip of spring green crepe paper. Then pierce a hole In each corner 1 Inch from the edge. Make the uprights by wrapping together three pieces of heavy No. IS wire, each 12 Inches long. Leave 1 Inch of wire unwrapped at one end. Rewrap several times with a i-lnch strip of white crepe paper cut across the grain Then Insert the unwrapped end wires Into the holes and spread out chicken foot fashion on the under side of the cardboard. Hold In place with gummed paper tape. Then 3 Inches down from the top bend each wire at right angles so that the tips of the wires meet In center of short ends. For the two long arches cut two heavy No. IS wires 22 Inches long. Wrap each separ ately with a i-lnch strip of white crepe paper cut across tha grain. Rewrap several times to obtain tha sama thickness as the up rights. Bend the wire In half, then spread out and fasten ends with spool wire to the uprights. Also fasten the two arches to gether in the center with spool wire. Decorate with sprays of orange blossoms and bells made from whit crepe paper. ORANGE BLOSSOM: For th. flowers cut several strlDs of white crepe paper 2 Inches deep and 2i Inches long. Slash long edge Into five pointed petals each t inch wide a n d 1 inch deep. Curl petals slightly over the scissors und gather together around a small cluster of yellow rose stamens. Tie baso of flower with spool wire leaving 2 inches or more for stems. Cut away surplus crepe paper below base of flower and bring ends of wire half way around on opposite sides, and then down and twist together underneath. Wrap stems with l-lnch strip of spring green crepe paper cut across the grain. For the grassy foliage cut across the grain a strip of th green crepe paper II inches wide. Fold tha strip to right thicknesses. Then cut through one folded edge 1 inch deep. Then clip off the corner 1-16 Inch, down i Inch. Then from the same point at the top clip 1-16 Inch off again and make a straight cut down 11 Inches, Continue until entire strip is cut. Start wrapping below base of flower with the grassy foliage adding 8-inch length of spool wire as you wrap. Add other flowers about 2 inches apart as you wrap. Make several flower sprays and fasten in place around the arch with spool wire. wtuuiNU bells: cut strip of white crepe paper 2i inches deep and 2s Inches long. Fold In halt lengthwise and pasta sides together to form a tube. Stretch lower edga to shape rim of bell. Gather top edges together and tie with 5-Inch length of spool wire. Cut away surplus crepe paper at top and bring ends of wire around to opposite sides. Twist ends togather to form stem. Then wrap stem with nar row strip of whit crepe paper cut across th grain. Shape wire to form a ring or loop at top of bell. Mako several bells assorted sizes and tie with whit ribbon to form graceful cluster. Dec orate bells with ribbon bows and flowers. The Western Pine association said -orders cam to 88,161,000 board feet compared with 81, 807,000 for the previous week and 71,866,000 for the same week of 1040. In that order production figures were 77,740, 000 board feet, 88,732,000 and 73,043,000; shipment figures: 77, 083,000 board feet, 77,638,000 and 60,800,000. Stalling's opponent to Jim Bush. Luxury of Good Steak Must Be Protected By Proper Broiling Broiled steak for Sunday din ner can be both a luxury and an economy. If th left-over bone and trimmings are cooked slow ly In water with onion and vege table scraps, you have a rich stock for next day's meal. Cook dried llmas or red kidney beans In this stock, and thicken with cheese. That's a high protein, low cost main dish. RULES FOR STEAK Learn the rules for broiling a steak perfectly, 1. Turn oven regulator to broil or to high. 2. Place steak two to three inches from the tip of the gas flam or from the electric unit. The actual distance depends on th thickness or the steak. A one-inch steak is placed two Inches from the heat; a two-inch steak should b placed three Inches. Th thinner steaks are placed nearer to tha heat in order to Insure sufficient brown ing without over-cooking. Thin, ner cuts, being nearer the heart, are broiled more satisfactorily at a somewhat higher tempera ture than is used for very thick steaks. By keeping these distances be tween top of steak and source of heat, a moderate broiling tem perature Is maintained with the desirable results mentioned above. If the depth of the broiler compartment will not permit this distance. It will be neces sary to reduce the temperature of the broiler compartment. 3. Broil until top side Is nice ly browned. The steak will be about half done at this time. 4. Season with salt and pepper and turn. 3. Season second sld and serve Immediately on hot plat ter. Broiled meats should never be allowed to stand for any length of time after cooking. It Is necessary to know th approximate time required for broiling so that th meat will be done when the meal Is ready to serve. June 6 (UP) The state department of motor vehicles today announced appor tionment of net collections of $0,638,823 In motor vehicle fees from July 1, 1840, to March 81, 1841. Of the total, 20 per cent was turned over to the general fund of the stato and the remainder was apportioned 40 per cent to the Incorporated cities of the state and 40 per cent to the coun ties on basis of population. The money may be used only for street and road building pur poses or for police and fir pro tection of the traffic thereon. The total net income from motor license fees during the period was $14,018,234, about $2,283,000 more than received in any former similar period. How ever, $4,338,431 was withheld to pay Interest and principal on outstanding state highway bonds, contributions to the state retire ment fund and support of the motor vehicle license tax admin istration.
