The First Baptist church has scheduled a week of Bible con ference services with Dr. R. L. Powell, pastor of Temple Bap tist church of Tacoma, according to an announcement by the pas tor, Rev. Cecil C. Brown. Dr. Powell has been with the Baptist church on several prevl ous occasions for revival meet ings and Bible conferences. He is pastor of a large and growing church in Tacoma. Dr. Powell was formerly connected with the south-wide Baptist work, having come to the coast from Texas where he was pastor of a church of 2000 members. The Rev. Mr. Powell is recognized in religious circles as one of the outstanding Bible expositors and preachers of the day. Dr. Powell will ar rive Monday, March 17, for the first service and is to remain through the 23rd. It Is hoped that Mrs. Powell will accompany Dr. Powell and that she will be available for af ternoon. Bible classes for the women. The regular opening exercises were led by the Sunday school superintendent, Mrs. Jam s Dixon. Well-bound Bibles were presented to Barbara Dctrlck, Patty Harris, Veda Grace and Marie Tlbbclts as awards for memory work and attendance. Mrs. Inez Harris then look charge of the day's program. "America" was sung as an opening hymn followed by a playlet, "Messago of the Pen nies," written for the occasion by Mrs. Harris. Those who took part were Bobby Detrlck, Shir ley Deaton, Ruth Turner, Marie Nancy, Veda Tibbetts, Donna Cooper, Grace Myers, Audrey Johnson, Francis McMillan and Pearl Bowers. The group also sang in closing their number, "Not Too Far For Loving." Mrs. Earl Cooper gave an ex cellent Interpretation of a dis satisfied mother who suddenly found reason to count her many blessings. She also sang an ap propriate number, "If We Only Had the Time." Elena Gooch gave a reading, "What Is a Patriot?" Barbara Dctrick and Clara Marie Wallace played a piano duct, after which Bonita Gooch sang a missionary song, "Little Black Me." Mrs. Etta Vennen Hartman read an inter esting story and closed the pro gram with pertinent remarks. Rev. Bradshaw took charge of trie service at this point, giv ing a brief but challenging talk on our part In the world crisis. An offering was taken to com plete the welfare fund, and when counted Bly's total con tribution proved to be over $30. Bonita Gooch dismissed the con gregation at Mr, Bradshaw's re quest after he had given a short speech in appreciation of her loyal work with the young peo ple. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints hold meetings in the auditorium of the public library on the corner of Fifth street and Klamath avenue. Sunday school services con vene at 10 a. m. and at U a. m. departments are separated for priesthood classes and a special women's class and the children's choir. Sacrament meeting Is held each Sunday evening at 7:30 p. m. The Relief society hold meet ings each Tuesday afternoon at 2 p. m. The second Tuesday -of eaah month is devoted to a work and business meeting. The Mutual Improvement asso ciation meets each Tuesday eve ning at 7:30 o'clock. Engravers, Eugene, spent Mon day and Tuesday at tha Chile-, quin high school taking picture for the high school annual "Panther Tracks," and gave much valuable advice concern lng the best plans for arrang ing the contents of tha year book. The majority of pictures and materials have been turned in to the engraver and printer and the deadline for all "odds and ends" is March 12. Evelyn Petersen and Delbert Holbrook visited in Medford over the weekend at Evelyn Petersen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Doss. Ray Byrnes was confined to his home Wednesday due to a severe cold. Don Evans, who is employed by the Shell Oil company in Klamath Falls, visited with friends and relatives in- Chile- ' quin Wednesday. A new light fixture has been installed at one end of tha platform at the local depot for . the convenience of night ar rivals. Vertls Swearingen of sprtgue River took an unexpected air- ' plane ride recently while re turning from his vacation trip to Texas. - It seems that Swear- -lngen and an army captain were Involved in a deep conversation . in Yuma.
