Sassoon Says Japan Lacks Food, Labor, Oil Reserve, German Influence Stronger SAN FRANCISCO, Jon. 80 (UP) Japan's internal situation Is anything but good, for there is a definite shortage of food, labor and oil reserves, Sir Victor Sassoon, Internationally known banker, said Wednesday. German Influence is getting stronger every day In official Japanese circles; German techni cal advisors arc swarming into the country seeking to bring Ja pan Into the war so as to divert American supplies from Great Britain to the Far East, he add ed. Sir Victor reached San Fran cisco on the Honolulu clipper from Hong Kong on one of his periodic visits to the United States. "There is a definite shortage nf food and I must say the Jap anese authorities make no effort to disguise it," he said in a pre pared statement. "Unlike the Germans, they do not welcome parcels of food being sent Into the country from the outside. Contrarily they will not allow it as they do not want It said that certain parts of the population, especially the foreign element, are better treated than the in habitants of the country," He said Japan's industrial sit uation has worsened; labor la short and inefficient; machinery Is not being repaired and pro duction Is dropping. Oil reserves which a year ago were assumed to be sufficient to care for Jap anese military needs for three years are now down to a year's requirements. But should America go to war with Japan, Sir Victor has no fear of the consequences. He feels America's superiority in the air would quickly turn the tide of victory.
