PAGE TEN THE NEWS AND THE HERALD, KLAMATH FALLS, ORE. May 21, 1940 Manketi and tyiHcuieicU WAR STOCKS T NEW YORK, May Jl (AP) War stocks today led the mar ket in one of the widest breaks In two years as severe allied re verses brought visions to Wall Street of a German-forced quick peace. Losses ran to IS or more points for pivotal steels, air- crafts, electrical equipments, coppers, motors and chemicals. The ticket tape frequently was behind floor dealings on the downswing, slowing on feeble recovery shifts. Quotations were above the lows in most cases at the c 1 o i e with dealings speedy. Transfers were around 4,000,000 shares, biggest turn over since last September. Major commodities weakened. Bonds generally followed stocks, although German and Danish dollar loans moved upward. The "free" British pound sterl ing dropped substantially, along with the French franc Utilities and rails were lesser sufferers than others, but they were well down at the finish. Conspicuous losers included U. S. Steel, Bethlehem, Youngs town Sheet, Douglas Aircraft, United Aircraft, Glenn Martiu, Boeing, Lockheed, Sperry, Gen eral Motors, Chrysler, U. S. Rubber, Allied Chemical, West lnghouse, Dow Chemical, Philip Morris, Loft, Standard Oil of N. J., Anaconda, American Smelting, Kennecott, Du Pont, Eastman Kodak, J. I. WOOL MARKET BOSTON, May 21 (AP-USDA) There was very little business being transacted in wool today on the Boston market. Quota tions were mostly steady on spot wools. An occasional offering was- reported being quoted slightly easier. Good French combing length fine territory wools in original bags were quoted mostly at 82 to 83 cents, scoured basis. Country-packed three-eighths and quarter-blood bright fleece wools for shipment from the country were quoted mostly at 37 to 38 cents, in the grease. Delivered to users, little demand for these wools was re ported here but some local mills were reported active in the country. I really want to see if I like this kind of work.
