The cir cuit-leading Oaks took a well played. 2-0, game from San Diego, while Seattle waa edging oat Los Angeles 6-3. Oaks In Fine Form The Oaki were in fine form In every department while beat ing San Diego. ' They ran to tl . the number of consecutive in nings they have held opponents scoreless, by reason of Ken Dou glas' five-hit southpawing, Jimmy Hitchcock s timely clubbing, and snappy Acorn fielding. The San Francisco-Portland game was an odd affair from be ginning to end. The first lx Beavers hit safely to get oft to a 5-0 lead, then Bill Posedel had to be derrlcked In the- third after pitching; hltless ball when the O'Doulmen scored two runs on three walks,-an error and an in field out. . Sacs Trim Missions Lanky Don French then pitched 6 1-8 innings, striking out nine Seals and walking eight. Two of the 'Seals' three hits scored two earned runs in the ninth. July 8, Echoes of the biggest financial aud freshman flops in the .four-year history of the all-star game failed today to deprive National leaguers of their jubilation over turning back the Americans for the first time. Paced by the great Dissy Dean and Carl Hubbell, then plucked from danger by tbe strong right arm of Lonnie warneke, the Na tionals capitalised their auperlor pitching to squeeie out a 4 to 3 decision under extraordinary cir cumstances before a crowd that occupied little more than half of the stands at National league field. Hitters Have Off Day Led by Manager Charley Grimm of the Chicago Cuba, the Nation als won because they forced the breaks , capitalised opportuni ties and on the whole played smarter baseball. They had their share of luck, but they were primed to win. The favored Americans lost be cause their celebrated "murder ers' row" was handcuffed by rival pitchers for eight of nine innings, and, sad to relate, because their sensational rookie outfielder, Joe Di.Maggio of the Yankees, picked tbe occasion to experience his on:- day slump since he flashed across the star clustered big league sky. Although the weather was perfect and the attraction un usual, the gate receipts were litllv more than 120,000 and expenses consumed - well over half the amount taken In. The answers appeared to be (1) that too many tans were scared off by continual talk of a "sell out", ticket speculation, otc, and (2) that It was a physical impos sibility, even if the fans had showed np, to i2ll as many as 25,000 unreserved seats on, the day of the game. , From all Indications, steps will be taken by the club owners to guard against a similar debacle before the 1937 all-star game Is held in Washington, under Amer ican league auspices. Jockey Killed on Race Track VANCOUVER, B. C, July 8, (P) Shortly after his mount, Wood hill, stumbled and two other horses piled into them at the Lansdowue Park track, erry Sny der, 17, apprentice jockey, died in a hospital here last night. Snyder, who came here recently from Longncres race track, near Itcntcn, Wash., received a frac tured skull, broken ribs and other injuries. The other two Jockeys escaped injury. . Snyder pushed his mount to the front at the start ot the race, but the horse stumbled and fell leav ing the backstretch. The jockey was crushed beneath two horses.
