OREGON May 21, 1030 P"!E TEN LOCI CLUB JOINS IN STATE CONCLAVE Loral delegate! and members of the Klamath Falls Business ' and Professional Women's Glee club will leave for Koseburg on Friday and Saturday of this ' week to participate In. the state convention or the organisation. Because the Klamath Falls ' group has the largest member ship in the state, the local club will send seven official dele gates, and two state board mem bers. . The Klamath Falls delegates are Dena Bsckes, Jewell Cant' rail, Irma Badger, Martha Me Collum, Ann Avery and Emma Carter, whose place at conven tion will be taken by Mae King Conradl, alternate. Mrs. Isabelle Brlxner, state ' membership chairman, will sit on the state board, aa well as Mrs. Jean Porter, local presi- dent. Twenty members of the glee elub and the director, Mrs. A. J. Voye, with . Miss Marie Oben chain, accompanist, will also make the trip to Roseburg. The glee club will compete In the state contest to be held there Saturday night. . . INSTITUTIONS HIT S SALEM, May II. (JP Popu latlon records were broken to day for two of Oregon's state Institutions located at Salem, Both the state Insane hospital and the state penitentiary had new high marks, superintend ents reported. Dr. R. E. Lee Stelner of the hospital reported 1,440 Inmates t the Institution which la al ready overcrowded. A new ad dition was fast being completed to relieve the crowded condi tion. Warden James Lewis re ported 959 prisoners, exceeding by two the high mark of 1931. The institution is equipped to handle 1,000 prisoners. Between 20 and 10 prisoners bow eligible for parole . under tbe . good-time deduction, were being held pending the outcome of the habeas corpus proceedings for the immediate release of Earl H. Feb! without the neces sity for parole, aa ruled neces sary by tbe attorney general re cently. The Febl ease is pend ing In tbe Marion county cir cuit court and will be appealed to the state supremo court. National Pension Club Official to Visit Here Soon The Rev. Dr. Clinton Wonder, member of the national . Town send board and eastern regional director, will be guest speaker at a meeting of Klamath conn ty Townsend clubs set for the armory, Friday nlgnt, May 39, It was announced - Wednesday by local Townsend leaders. Dr. Wonder will be accompan ied on his visit bore by John H. Weir, newly elevated ' stato area manager, and other rank ing OARP officials of Oregon and the Pacific coast. Plana for the armory meet ing and reception of the visitors were laid Tuesday night, when advisory boards and officers of the Klamath county clubs gath ered at city hall. Committees were formed to handle the May 99 event, and chairmen appointed as follows: Program committee, Mrs, W. T. Dean, chairman; finance com mittee, -Mrs. W. H. Carter, chair man; receiving committee, com posed of the presidents -of - the various clubs; advertising com mittee, U. S. Balentine, chair man; decoration committee, Mrs. W. M. Kstes. chairman. The members of the Junior Town send club will serve aa ushers, under direction of Mr. Hill. It is expected that the Klam ath Temple choir and the city band will provids music .for the armory meeting. It is hoped that with this reorgan isation a paid executive may be secured for Klamath Falls. - Other plans discussed were those for tho carnival to be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Camp Fire house, affiliated with the Audubon society for the study of birds, summer camp at Lake o' tho Woods, and the rummage sals to be held on Juno t. May II ' WH-Gov-ernor ' Martin announced today inquiries from 29. SMS motorists outside 'of Oregon, concerning scenic trips and the Oregon Coast highway route have been re ceived' the past month, most of which resulted .from the recent advertising campaign launched by the highway department In addition to motorists who visited Oregon last year, requests tor Information and maps have come from persons as the result of direct advertising, the Oregon State Motor association work and the evergredh playground adver tising campaign. Martin stated that out of state motorists last year paid about $750,000 in gasoline taxes In the state, and that non-resident mo torist registration for the first four months of 1939 exceeded by 17 per cent the total for the same period last year.
