ROME, Dec. 20. (UP) Extra
ordinary precautions were taken
to guard the British embassy to
night. Besides the usual police 'patrol
around the embassy, a company
of soldiers mounted guard In a
nearby street.
Soveral other companies of
soldiers were ordered near, the
Piazza Dl . Spagna, where the
British consulate is situated.
Some reliable quarters believed
the additional guards were or
dered to frustrate any possible
demonstrations against the ab
rupt demise ot the Anglo-French
proposal for peace between Italy
and Ethiopia.
Officials would not explain the
measures.

man, and Richard Gilbert, brake
man, died tonight from burns
suffered when a Northern Pa
cific freight train crashed Into
the rear of a stalled Great North
ern train near hero. .

unconscious, and physicians said
he would not live. The men
were scalded when the boiler of

ing through eight wooden cars
