Consumers were Insist ent that something be done about tha sale of eold storage eggs as strictly fresh offerings. Fresh eggs of top quality are getting scarcer dally, but are prices are held down by the sale ot mixed lots of storage endtroah goods. Trade In butter at the week end was of ateady character on the open market and without price change. Demand for stor age waa atin taking care ot whatever offerings were avail able. Firm tone continued to be sug gested tor cheese practically throughout the country. Local prices were generally ateady to firm ' with an excellent move ment. There continued a rather good tone In the market for live chickens with prices steady except for Leghorn broilers and colored spring offerings. Spring ducks remained almost Impossible. Market for lambs was In bad shape here with leading receiv ers of country killed stock having all their cooler facilities taxed. The country was asked to stop shipping until there was a clean up. Market for country killed veal and hogs was vory ateady, espe cially the latter. Best call Is for light weight blockers which were moving out upon arrival. Beef demand was good. Shipments ot strawberries were gaining here and this Is en abling tbe local trade to clean up all quality good without resort ing to too much price cutting. Top quality berries were some what scarce. W The stock market continued Its creeping progress today and a number of Issues recorded rela tively substantial gains In sub normal activity. Although senti ment was noticeably Improved, traders were still cautious. The close was steady, and the turn over approximated only 260,000 shares. The Improved tone displayed by equities was attributed partly to a slightly brighter brand ot Washington developments and scattered Indications that busi ness and Industry are beginning to show resistance to the season al let-down. Silver and rubber futures were about even. Followers ot tbe white metal were not especially enthusiastic over the administra tion's demand for a 50 per cent profits tax. Cotton did better. Bonds were a little ragged, al though U. S. government secur ities scored further small gains. Tbe dollar was again higher In terms ot leading foreign ex changes. The street felt a little better about the stock exchange control bill following reports from Wash ington that the president, In or der to expedite passage of the measure, had agreed to the Glass provision tor a special regulatory commission. The president bad previously approved the house bill which would have placed regulation In the bands ot the federal trade commission. Today'a closing prices: Air Reduc ... ..... Alaska Jnn. Al.
