VALENTINE CAKE (3 tit "hit") S cups sifted Swan 'l cup milk Down Cake Flour Vl cup srater S teaspoons Calumet 1 teaspoon vanilla Baking Powder V teaspoon almond 14 teaspoon salt extract cup butter or other S egg white, study shortening beaten Vl cups sugar Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt, and sift together three times. Cream butter thoroughly, add sugar gradually, and cream together until tight and fluffy. Add flour, alternately with liquid, a small amount at a time. Beat after each addition until smooth. Add flavoring: fold in egg whites. Bake in two greased 9-inch layer pans in moderate oven (37S F.) 30 minute. Put layer together and cover top and sides of cak with whit frosting.
