WOSS, secretary ot sUte, anil in charge of the 1 x state traffic department, urges that the speed limit r milM nar hour on state highways be removea. Hofts follows the same line of reasoning as that which prompted several other states to place no limit upon speed, and .which leaves the matter of speed to the dis cretion of drivers and atate traffic officers. There are many who believe that 35 miles an hour is entirely too alow, especially along straight ana level stretches of highways, and there is not one driver in .t,v -ho does not exceed the limit unaer wis conai tion. Forty and even fifty mile are often attained by . m.inritv of those usinB: state highways. This is in direct .violation of the law, but arrest seldom result unless the high rate o speed is made under conaiuons hat re retarded by traffic cops as being exirenieiy dangerous. Thus it can be seen that the matter is left largely to the discretion of traffic otncera. if th law ia amended and no limit placed on speed the question of whether or not automobile operators ra driving in a dangerous manner will be leu enurei tri Hiacration of officers. It is evident, therefore, that if Hoss' idea is put into practice there will be no difference except that there will be no restriction on speed, to which not a few people are voicing objections Reviving The Silver Issue cENATOK BORAH of Idaho is urging the establish ment of a new ratio between gold and silver, saying that' a ratio acceptable to all leading nations would do much to stimulate business throughout the .world as a whole. The Idaho aolon points out that while the volume of business of leading powers is rapidly increasing, that the world's gold supply is rapidly decreasing. In this .view he is joined by others, some of them recognized as able authorities on the subject of world commerce and business. A new monetary ration was urged by English economists long before Borah suggested it in his inter view with newspaper men at Spokane Saturday. .Whether or not the suggestion will be seriously con sidered remains to be seen, but it will at least bring about a revival of the silver issue, and a reappearance of the shades of William Jennings Bryan. Voters Are Aroused, REPORTS coming in from over the atate indicate more than usual interest among voters in the issues and . candidates involved in the coining election. Registra tion records reported from several cities and counties re veal an unusually heavy registration of voters and there is reason to believe that Oregon will cast a record vote m November. The heavy registration is also regarded by some as an omen pointing the way to political upsets and there ia the frequent expression that anything can be expected to come out of the ballot boxes on election day.
