They had little time In which to prepare them, but were very successful. Tha first debate was held on Wednesday on the question: Un solved, That all grammar school text books should be bought by the state. The affirmative was up held by Bertha Jteddy and Annie Mlcka, and the negative by Olra Kuni and Frances Hood. The peeches of both sides were excit ing and Interesting in every way. The negative won by a wide mar gin of seven to one. On Thursday the second debate was held. The question tor this debate was: Resolved, That all game seasons should be closed down for a period of fire years. The affirmative was upheld by three speakers: William Streeter, Fred Fisher and Delmer William eon; the negative by Edwin Stast ney, Paul Petrasek and Louis To fell. The speeches of both sides were knocking and effective, but the negative was a trifle stronger In their points, and won the de bate by the score of four to three. Miss Judy acted as chairman, and the public speaking class as judges to all of the debate. The main aim of these debates was to give practice to the stu dents in debatiug for the future years and as English work. The public speaking class got experi ence by criticizing the debaters. Boys' Team Leaves For Valley City ! The Malln High basketball team, accompanied by Coach Fish- ' er, left for Ashland last Thursday ; noon, where they will take part in 1 the Southern Oregon invitational basketball tournament, sponsored by the Southern Oregon Normal school. The tournament is the largest of its kind west of Chicago. This year the Normal school ex- j out of ten game, and they aio going to do their best to bring home some of The bacou from the tburuament this year. Those who made the trip were: Frank Kamarad. Louie Kalina. Mervyn Wilde. Willie ltajnus. Da vid M.-Comb. Kuorti Ivtrasek, Kd win Stastney. Paul Petrasek. Cluiide Layman was unable to make the trip as he got the mumps. Christian Endeavor Party Given at Malin The contest held by the Chris tian Kmlenvor society of .Malln has been closed Willi tho "Hliio' or "Airship" side in the lead. The contest has been running for about three months, the "Blues" being in the lead during the whole period. Sin.e the winning side was to receive a party, the "Iteds" or the "Dirigibles" honored the opiHtsing side lust Saturday night, March IS. A basketball g.imo between the two sides was held. The "Iteds" showed the hardest and best pUytni;. thereby winning the game by a 12 to 0 score. After the game Ice creum and cake were served.
