Mr. Haney will go before the Interstate Commerce Commission tn the matter of the location of the proposed Great Northern ex tension to California and en deavor to get the line from Klaath Falle to the state line established through the Poe Val ley and Malln. Three routes are on the Great Northern's map and it is the hope of the Joint Railroad Com mittee to get the location settled tn conjunction with the Inter state Commerce Commission's order. If such Is the outcome of the recent hearing at Ban Francisco. . Klamath Falls merchants have some to the assistance of the Joint committee, subscribing over $800 to the fund necessary to earry the (ight through. It Is the viewpoint ot many that If the Great Northern Is allowed to build Its extension that part of the line rnnnning from Klamath Falls to the state line should serve a district not already en joying rail service. Would Leave Land With Government For Time Being At a meeting held at the cham ber ot commerce Saturday, when the committee appointed ' to study the publio land policy as outline.', by President Hoover met and discussed the situation and gave arguments pro and con, a resolution was passed to leave the lands to the government as they are at the present time. State Interested. A auggestlon made recently by President Hoover whereby the otherwise unappropriated public lands be returned to the state, tor surface right only, the min eral and other rights being re tained by - the government, is meeting with state-wide Interest, and meetings are being held throughout the state to discuss the problem and vote on it. Governor Calls Meeting. A letter from Governor Xor- blad to R. C G roes beck, presi dent ot the Klamath county chamber ot commerce, asks him to be present st a meeting to be held in Portlsnd on Thursday, January 24, to discuss the pub lio lands question and the dis posal of public lands in the state ot Oregon. The meeting will be composed ot men over the state interested in the mu ter, and they will decidj wheth er to be In favor or in oppositlno to the issue. AGED MAX FREEZES HANDS AMITY, Jan. 21 (AP) Steve McKinney, 78, Is In a critical condition as a result of exposure and la suffering with badly froien hands. McKinney, who Uvea alone on the place where he was born and raised, wss found Monday evening tangled In a barb wire fence by a brother- in-law, Peter Burton, who noticed the dark object In the fence and investigated. McKinney waa un conscious when found, but was later revived and able to state that he had found himself ont ot mstches and waa crossing a field to a neighbor's home about three-fourths of a mile away to replenish his supply.
