J Page Four EVENING HERALD, KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON Saturday, December 5, 1925 IF THE weather looks like rain. Laugh H off! When yon feel 'you must complain Laugh it off! Do not sit and nurse your war.'. Waste no time In useless tears. Put your faith in smiles and cheers, IauRh it oft! If men say you're looking ill, Laugh it off! Should they recommend a pill, Laugh it off! Doctors, druggists and disease Want lo do just as they please. You can save their costly fees, Laugh it off! If life seems to go dead wrong. Laugh It off! Drown your sorrow in a song. Laugh it off! Do your work with smiling face. Look ahead and keep the pace. Be a winner in the race. Laugh it off! JYLAND Is open. Preliminary . negotiations with Santa Clans, in ait tneir gay intrigue, are giving the children an early lesson in poli tics. Klamath Falls shop windows are now displaying toys.- of every description, which makes, us realize Christmas is just a few short weeks away. If you would feel the years slip away, again catch something of the glad spirit of childhood, when care; weighed less heavily and magic and mystery wove their spell, then pay Toyland a visit this land of woolly little dogs and the ever popular little tin soldiers; of horns and col ored ships, and the curly headed little dolls with their happy little painted faces. No thrill could be greater nor has Tjeen duplicated since the days wayback when children dreamed over, the mall order catalogues which For it's an old-fashioned Santa Claus who this year stands on the threshold of this joyful land, which nevertheless has its tears. If you visit the newly opened Toy land in the 'city stores, in spite of the blast of horns and the shrieking of trumpets you'll feel a funny. tight little sensation in the throat as you recognize many of the old treasures which you thought had forever passed from the stage of childhood to give place to smarter and more ingenious toys to the lik ing of the modern youngster. For they, are back, almost all of them our old friends, the German dolls, long, long since ostracized In the name of patriotism, with eyes that sleep, and long curls the old fashioned kind that you have clasped to your breast in ecstasy a thousand times and covered with kisses; the kid body kind, soft and yielding to the touch, exactly like - the dolls you used to know and love, with parted lips and arms outstretched in waiting. They are the kinds of dolls that brother used to operate upon when appendicitis first became popular, and a button, hidden in the saw dust tummy was the elusive appen dix. In keeping with the old-fashioned spirit of Sauta Claus, this Link Safeguard Your Home It does you little good to scrape and save to build that homo of your, unless you lake steps to see that it is protested. Tho one sure war to be protected Is to take out fire insurance. We are agents for the world's largest companies. Our rates are reasonable. We give personal sorvlco on every claim. J. CO " Helene rcitenstein SOCIKTY EDITOR Telephone 88 year has something of a reactionary, all of the vamp dolls seem to have been abolished. There are none on the market at all: none of the bath ing suit beauties, the wickVd flirta tious damsels of the goggle eyes; none of the shimmy shakers' Instead. Santa has divided at last to begin at the beginning, an.! the newest thing In dolldom is the baby doll, an exact copy of little brother a few days after the stork paid his call. These dolls come singly, in twins, even in triplets, with complete little layettes, cra dles and all. It Is significant that practically all of the dolls these days come dressed, many equipped with com plete little wardrobes. The modern little girl doesn't know- how to sew. and such a thing as the old-fashioned "work box" is simply unheard of. The most expensive dolls on the market nren't for the daughter at all. They're for mother. These are the decorative dolls, for which from $50 to $75 is not an unusual price. Daughter might have a whole family for the price of one but they're almost as much' in de mand as children's dolls. You find the same stuffed, woolly animals you knew when a child, only the teddy bears have all taken to wheels, just like their elders. Fundamentalists may rejoice that Toyfand remains unpolluted. Th? dark Darwinian scandal hasn't reached the North Pole evidently, for Noah's arks, with old Noah him self and all the wooden animals, ar back and going strong. The child ren know who he is, too, the sales woman says. Yet, with r.. -vide tolerance of childhood, the monkey eujois LCjual rank., with, lbs other.; animals. In fact, he is rather pop- ular spite of all his unfavorable .(. t ,.ti i.j ..nr....n,.u .i publicity. Almost every line of industry i3 represented in Toyland this year. There are moving vans for the children, who like to imitate their elders in the drama and struggle of this life; there are milk wagoni and grocery trucks and horses that can he hitched and unhitched, for childhood has never been known to scorn ancient methods. There are trucks and trains. Real phonographs in miniature, in place of the old fashioned Swiss harps that could play three different pieces, and a few cash registers seem to be thei. only concessions Santa has made to modernism. No, it has nbt changed much these twenty thirty and forty years. ST. MARY'S ALTAR SOCIETY HOLDS REGI LAR MEETING ST.
