COItVAI.LtS, Ore., Dec. I. - Edwin Fargo of Klamath Falls, freshman in engineering, made the second hiiihost score in u recent Thurstone psychological examination with a mark of 2S1. This examina tion requires one hour and 1L' mln uto to give, and a score of 2.10 points is possible if all answers arc made correctly. Psychological tests have been giv en in a few schools on this campus tor several years iu un. experimental way. and the results of these trials are said to indicate a possibility of beneficial results from the wider and uniform application of this form of examination especially to enter ing students. The Thurstone test is being used In a cooperative experiment by 109 participating colleges throughout the (Jotted States. O, A. 0. being the only Oregon college to Join in the trial. The examination is divided into eight parts including comple tion, arithmetic, artificial language, Word analogies, figure analogies, number completion, absurdities and opposite. Dec. 3. Portlands interest in the develop. ment of the Umatilla rapids project oa the upper Columbia was demon strated t.'day at a conference of lo cal business men held with Andrew- Weiss, economics expert of the Unit ed States bureau of reclamation, un der auspices of the reclamation com mittee of the chamber of commerce Weiss has been engaged in an eeonoml; survey of the project and came here by direction of Dr. El iwood Mead, commissioner of re clamation to confer with business men of Portland. Portland business men plodgel their hearty support to the pro ject, saying that this city la vitally Interested, not only from the stand point of reclamation of many thous ands of acres of land, but In the hydro-electric and the open river transportation features of the pro ject. V. L. Boise, chairman of the reclamation committee ot the cham ber, B. Marshall Dana, president of the Umatilla rapids association, stressed the point that while pri marily the proposed development was to reclaim many thousand acres of arid land and make them pro ductive, the canalization of the Co lumbia which will permit of water transportation from the interior tidewater and the development of a great amount of hydro-electric energy were things which had been given careful consideration In the final report on" the project.
