East side irrigation unit of Lang
ell valley will, for the first tinia.
be placed, under the jurisdiction of
the Langell Valley Irrigation Dis
trict board next spring, according to
announcement this morning by W.
D. Newell, prject manager of the
Klamath Irrigation district.
"it will, mean that 14,000 more
acres of irrigable land will be in
cluded within the board's jurisdic
tion," Mr. Newell explained. "The
reason it was not turned over to
the board last year was the neces
sity of control by the reclamation
office, while construction and" de
velopment work were in progress.
D. Newell, project manager of the
Gerber dam project, and the digging
of ditches to serve the farmers on
the east side of the valley, there
ia no reason why the unit should
not be turned over to the district."
Irrigation on the east side of. the
valley will begin on a, large scale
next spring. The new unit will bei
separate and distinct from the
Klamath Irrigation district, but will
be under the supervision of tho
reclamation service. John Turner
is president of the' district, A. E.
Gale and William Pankey, mem
bers of the board, and A. L. Wish

STUDY OF IXSAXK AST CASE
KECOHDEI) BY SPECIALIST
ZUmCII. IJV) The story of a
demented ant is recorded In the
Swiss archive for neurology and psy
chiatry with all due scientific ser
iousness by Dr. Rudolph Brun, wide
ly known nerve specialist.
The ant was discovered in one of
the artificially constructed nests for
scientific observation. . The insect
ran about incessantly .while others
remained quietly in the corners of
the nest, apparently shunning the de
mented one. The momentum of tbe
wildly rushing ant wus such that it
was unable to stop when anything in
its path was encountered.
After six days the ant was dlaect
ed and, under a microscope, it w.u
found lo have suffered from a tumor
the left lobe of the brain, whlcii had
destroyed several of the most Import
ant centers.
