Murphy, charged with manslaughter as the result of an alleged beating administered to his wife, Ella, last March, was re sumed in the circuit court this morning, after a three days recess, and the entire morning session was devoted to the defense cross exam ination of physicians, called by tho state, with the exception ot Sister Mary of Sacred Heart Hospital, who testified as to the last moments ot , AonA w. .mini nnctors Gearv I and Clancy of this city, and Dr. Woods ot Ashland, were the stata witnesses under cross examination. The state theory that death was caused by .embolism, in lay terms, a blood clot, was combatted vlgor ousl by the defense and tho ques tions covered every possible cause of death. Tho queries wore con fined to tho hypothetical questions asked by the state. According to the state's evidence, all tho vital organs of Mrs. Murphy were in a healthy condition, and it is con tended that by a "process of elimi nation" embolism caused death.
