Early today the weeping and wail
ing of his followers at a steamship
pier caused consternation to a
special detail of secret service men
who were escorting the Italian deb:
commissicn. headed by Count Gius

The count and his party -were en

midnight, and a special guard ac
companied them to the pier because

Return as Fighter

The defense in the court martini of
Colonel William Mitchell began
winding up Its case today in a
peaceful atmosphere, in marked con
trast to the tenseness noticeable
for the last two days when the ac
cused officer took the stand.
Representative Heid of Illinois,
Colonel Mitchell's counsel, announ
ced tit the outset that his case would
be completed before nightfall, hut
the activity of the prosecution In ar

In IS 15 when only 10 years old
he drove four yoke of oxen as they
plodded slowly westward with a
creaking prairie schooner in which
ho and his parents migrated 150
miles to Wlnoiamae, rhdiana, then
a frontier town.
In crossing the Wabash river the
eight oxen became frightened, got
beyond control of the Child driver
and lunged away through should. t
deep water. They nearly upset the
wagon but finally returned to the
cast bank of the river at the bat
tle ground near Lafayette, Indiana,
where Harrison a few years before
had defeated a large band of hos
tile Indians.
Today, 80 years later. Captain
iiobak, erect, alert and with the
clear eye of the frontiersman, is en
joyim: transportation of a far dif
ferent type. After hesitating for

gasoline rigs." he, has purchased a
