We have no objection to the California Oregon Power company or the Southern Pacific, or both, having a newspaper in this community, but we believe in letting them spend their own money in publishing it. Such a newspaper never could work in the interest of the people where they trespassed upon those of the corporations. During the past year the Klamath News has shown where it stands, and yet it comes to the people and isks them to spend their money in keeping it goinr. We know, of course, that scores have found it difficult, if not impossible, to induce those publishing the paper to discontinue sending it, while it seems to be the gen eral rule that pay for its subscription is unnecessary. This is typical of corporation methods to force their propaganda upon the people whether they want it or not. But the corporations are not the only offenders: The business men who patronize such a newspaper are equal ly guilty. Valuless as an advertising medium, they nev ertheless use it, that through their patronage it may be kept going to aid in the welfare of those interests that are opposed to the rank and file of the people. Time and again, in the past, we have seen these same busi ness men lined up against the people when it came to a decision between the people and the corporations. Daily we are witnessing this same proceedure. For months past the Klamath News has been on the side of those corporations that are seeking to throttle the de velopment of Klamath county, that are striving with might and main to take the bread and butter out of the mouths of the people here and yet at the same time we see the advertising of certain business .institutions appearing in its columns. There is one effective rem edy for such proceedings: If these business institutions want to back up the Southern Pacific and the California Oregon Power com pany, then let them secure their patronage from those corporations. The people of the county should spend their money with business men who are not directly and indirectly spending their's in aiding these corporations to crush this community. There is no more a place for such business institutions in Klamath Falls than there is. a place for a newspaper that day in and day out is the mouthpiece of the Southern Pacific and the Califor nia Oregon Powef company. There are plenty of bus iness institutions in every line where you can spend your money and not have it used in the promotion of the interests of your enemies and it is only fair that you confined your patronage to these. Don't forget that it is a good rule and a fair practice to help those who help j'ou, and when you follow it you will soon see its bene ficial results. j jjjlllTheatre l On the Stage On the Screen Five fine acts of bette than usual Vaudeville.
