The reg ular major league season has end ed with the Senators and Pirates. now preparing for the post season classic, in front of their respective packs by eight and one-half games each. Three games in each league were played as the curtain fell yesterday. so xar as me standing was con cerned, the only result was the Cubs" drop into the cellar of the national league through a defeat by the Cardinals. On the heels of the Senators and Athletics, the St. Louis Drowns and Detroit Tigers finished in order in the American league and will share in the world series spoils as will the Reds and Cardinals, who trailed the Pirates and Giants in the first division of the national league cir cuit. Rogers Hornsby of the Cardinals led the national batting parade for the sixth consecutive year. He es tablished the natinal league record for batting last season. His mark. .403, also made him one of the only three men to hit over .4 00 for three seasons. The others were Burkett and Ty Cobb. Harry Heilraann. Detroit out fielder, won the batting crown in the American league for the third time with an average of .393. Johnny Mostil of the White Sox captured the pilfering honors in the American with 32 stolen bases. Max Carey of the Pirates led th senior circuit with 43 thefts. Hornsby was crowned king of the home run hitters in the majors with 39 blows, three less than his own national league record. Bob Meusel of the Yankees led in the American with 33 homers, while Babe Itutb, holder of the record with 59 circuit blow's in one' sea son, finished in a deadlock for sec ond honors in his league with Ken Williams, of the Browns, each hav ing 25. Stanley Coveleskie of Washing ton, led the American league pitch ers with 20 victories and five de feats, Dazzy Vance of Brooklyn was beaten by Bill Sherdel of the Cardinals for honors in the na tional. Sherdel won 10 and lost 6,j while Vance won 22 and lost 9. ! i Bottomley of the Cardinals col lected the most hits In the na-( tional league, 227., while Al Sim-' mons of the Athletics rolled up 250 I in his circuit. Cuyler of the Pi- j rates led the run scorers with 144, while Simmons accounted for 121. PUT IN DISCARD Receipts and Attendance Last Week Greater than Ever Recorded Before SALEM. Ore.. Oct. 5. Both finan cial receipts and attendance at the j Oregon state fair last week broke ' all previous records, is the claim of state fair authorities in offleial fig ures given out yesterday. Receipts aggregated $109,099.24 as against $102,000 in 1923. the big gest fair year financially prior to this J year. The total attendance last week j was over $5,000. it Is claimed, as against 82.700 in 1923. The night horse show this year returned ) $5410.75 against $3220.75 last year. I which was the best previous year. Concessions yielded $9291.40 as against $S143.50 last year. Grand stand receipts last year were slight ly ahead of this year. 17353.25 as against $7269.
