Arrest of Leo Popovlchi for an alleged hold-up in
Oakland, October L last, was sought today by Paul
Hoxunie, who toltl Deputy District Attorney Wiest that
a diamond stickpin lost by him in a street hold-up in
the southern city was found on Popovich, in this city
several days ago.
While seeking Popovich'" arrest on the criminal charge,
Bozame was preparing to take civil action in court this

favoring the Southern Pacific railroad construction pro
gram.
The sentiment of the meeting last night expressed by

expression made on June 11, by 300 Merrill citizens fav

charged with malfeasance
in public office.

Percy R. Kelley, of Salem,
who will preside throughout

Mr. Jones was acting dis
trict attorney just prior to
the appointment of Mr. El
liott, and was instrumental
in bringing the evidence be

"1 feel ctj hesitancy in accepting
the appointment," Mr. Jones said
today. "There is absolutely nothing
personal in it as 'far as I am con
cerned. I was appointed by the
court. I suppose, because I am con

This was Sheriff Hurt Hawkins'
opinion today of the charge that
Tom Tracy, court house Janitor and
deputy sheriff, had part of a bottle
of moonshine whiskey In his pos
session last Wednesday morning.
"I knew that Huff and Barclay
were a bit sore at Trace and I don't
believe Tracy would he mixed up
in such a deal. District Attorney
Elliott is out of lown and nothing
will be done until iie returns.
"No deputy of mine can deal in
liquors and keep his Job."

has aroused widespread Interest In
