At tho Burns station spring IVO bus been tho most dependable dry land crop. Buying feed other than takago or other supplements and attempting to raise pigs by growing who have no. grain of their own has not boon found profitable In Oregon, accord ing to reports of tho experiment sta tion. Kven on farms twihefO grain is produced It Is not available to rulso pigs where tho harvest Is ex ceptionally clean or where water is nut available. Weanling pigs ot reasonable size nnd thrift aro most fairly sold by iho head rather then by the pound, explain the O. A. Q, experiment sta tion spcclnllKts. A weanling pig weighing 40 pounds, thoy say, Is certainly not worth a third moro than one weighing 30 pounds, since tho gain from 30 to 40 pounds Is very cheaply produced, whereas tho oost of the .original .10 pounds ln cltidos birth cost with all attendant expenses. To Be Center "At Klamath Falls I have once moro taken the opportunity of go ing over this region generally, with the satisfaction of having Mr. de Forest also go over important por tions of it. so that he knows the character or the country, Its re sources and its problems, by per sonal observation. "Let me say that Southern Pacific people take a pride in the growth Of Klamath Falls and the region tributary to It. This pride is be cause it is un example of what is accomplished when tho manufac turers and men of business gen erally nnd tho carriers serving them work together with tho object of making an industrial and manufac turing center in response to the natural resources of the place. Ev erything wo have done, everything wo are planning have In mind Klamath Falls as the industrial cen ter. There has been no change in i that from the beginning. It is true I that litigation, to which this com pany was subjected through no fault ot its own, growing out of other litigation In which we beenme sub sequently involved, gave us no op tion but to delay the execution ot our plans, but Klamath Falls can bear witness to the promptness and zeal with which we resumed the WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR HOUSE WIRED Consult expert electricians and Insure your home against im proper Insulation nd defective wiring. Asks Co-operation "If the business interests of Klam ath Falls and ourselves are per mitted to continue this relationship of mutual understanding and good will so that both may in good faith carry out the plans already outlined to the mutual advantage ot both sides, all will go well. But wo have to work together. This is the only way the great sums ot money neces sary to carry on this campaign or railroad construction can be ob tained, tor it is the only way it can be made reasonably profitable. We have Tailh that our proHt will come wlth tho continued growth "or the country thus responsive to our efforts in common. I say in com mon because it should be borne in mind that a fair return upon the very largo investments necessary to create the comprehensive local and through transportation service we have planned, will require us to re ceive nil of the revenue from the traffic of the territory to be served. Vast sums consumed in construc tion to develop this region can yield a profit to this company only by providing business for our main lines. The justification for spending such sums is that the new; mileage becomes a source of traffic for the Southern Pacific lines which furnish the money to build lhat new mile age."
