Huge Fire Strikes
Block in Montreal
MONTREAL, Que. Aug. 25. IP)
An entire block of buildings in
i
Montreal was laid waste last night
and early this morning by one of
the most spectacular fires the city
ever experienced.
The blaze, under a halt gale
spread rapidly and soon enveloped
the entire block. The building con
sumed consisted of 20 or more
dwellings, a large apartment house,
an ice plant and other houses.
No estimate has-been made of tho
damage. The casualties were com
paratively small.
Most of these reported consisted
of several firemen being overcome
by smoke or cut by flying glass.
Ono woman who suffered a broken
arm when a piece of flro apparatus
ln turning a corner dashed through
the plate glass of a cigar store.
