Klonakc of tin physiology department at Santford mslvorflfty has efllejrlged from eight years of experimenting with the con viction that meat caters, as compared with vegetarians, will live longer, have more children and be of more hardy physique. Prof. Kionaker confined his labor atory reareb to 40 pairs of white rats, but be said that tho conclusions he reached coincided with reports of the results of restricted diet on people in many localities after tne World war. He divided the rats Intj two equal groups, feeding one set an ordinary diet ipcludlng a protein, the other tho same diet minus (he protein. He found that withdrawing meat from tbe rati.' diet caused males to weigh 35 per cent less than those fed meat, the females 28 per cent less. Tbe vegetable diet shortened the male's life 33 per cent, the fe male's 4 0 per cent, caused 29 per cent fewer rats to be born and also brouftbt about loss of power of re production by the third generation. The proportion of males to females was reduced among the vegetarian rats. C ARRIAGE OF ROYALTY ARK CSED IX PlCTTJRES LONDON.
