One of tho finest fish caught In Diamond Lake for trDine time was brougi.it in this morning by M. 0. Stone of Long Beach, California, wh caught the limit in an hour and a ialf. ' : The largest of too fish, a beauti ful rainbow trout, weighed ton pounds, and was perfectly propor tioned. Such a flg'ut was put up by the trout tiliat Mr. Stone considered himself quito fortunate that he suo:ceded In getting him in the boat. Even after ht'o fltfii had been landed Mr. Stono for forced to gash It In tho back of the ncad to keep It from flapping back In the water. - . The big follow was-. caught near the center of lie lake about- nine thirty when tho surface of the water was fairly smooth. All of the other fish were caught , in Me. same vicinity. Mr. Stone used a eplnned, and at the time of the big 4atch was trol ling . very slowly, maintaLng Just enough speed to keep the spinner going. For :mo tlmo before get ting any fish bn the hook he foit them nibbling, ' but was oiunblo to get them to take the hook. Then he tried giving a alight quick Jork to the line which secured the hook in their moutha. Following, this line tot attack Mr, Stone soon had aaileved the limit, Fly fishing is unusually good this year. - At the south end of the lako . is Silent, creek, the largest strcnm emptying Into the lake. Tho fish stay near the mouth of the creek in tho cold waller, Silent creek being muclt coldor than the Vaka, whl:A remains at an average of 70 dogrecs. A form lot fishing -rarely socn. at Diamond Lake has been .employed with success ireceutly. Sovoral men havo donned hli booUt and wadod out from shoro and brought 'In good sized catches with flies. Most of (he fish . -caught thimly are. small ones between seven and ten Inches, although It nas reported that one man hUd taken out two (ipcclmons each twcnty-evon Inohes long. In the evening soores of'omall fish can be seen Jumping from tho wator near the shore wTiere.they get a twilight feast from the Insects ven turing from the shore. Tho fish taken from Diamond Lake are unusuully fat, with the ex ception of tihe spawners 'which are rather lean ut this time of tho year. In the Ijke exists a great variety of natural food for the trout including water dogs, laoches. In sects, moss, fresh water kelp, etc. The larger fish ent water dogs from nix ta olg'ht Inches In size. Re cently a fish when opened won found to cuntnjn slv of the unfortunato wator dogs. Tho oxtremely good fishing which continues throughout tho year Ij duo lo the fact that hundreds of .thous ands of iralnbow trout nro pinned In tho lake annually.
