. Vr:'. A SORRY STATE -
- Within the next few weeks work of re-surfacing the
Dalles-California highway between Klamath .Falls and
Modoc Point will be under way, providing a good mac
adam road over the state highway to the north .. 4 Ai
" J. jus is as it snouid be. rne state-commission is
always ready to make needed road improvements when
funds are available, and the commission likewise sees
that needed. funds are available if the. need. is suffi-
ciently urgent. y,;.,. ; .."a,...;.:
!f . But it appears to the Herald that there : is a certain
Waste of public funds to build this portion of this high
way and then neglect to improve the : road within . the
city limits. .;.
? As.it is at present,, the Shippington road is a public
disgrace. Autoists desiring to go to Crater Lake thru
Jylamath Falls are compelled to travel over this almost
impassable road. It leaves a bad impression with them.
Wherever they go they warn other motorists to keep
away from Klamath Falls because of the bad condition
. Of the roads within the city limits. ; '---.; : . - ;
- We venture the assertion that, a good many tourists
have keen kept away from the city already this season
because of the bad condition of the Shippington road
tnd unless the city officials find some means of making
this much Jieeded improvement, the city will get a black
ye which will take many years for it to live down
Action is needed. Something should ho
. further delay, and the city council should in some- man-
-rjer or .otner imd .the necessary. . finances . to remove
this serious blot ; ?r ' i .

t' For several weeks prior to the Rodeo there' was some
qoubt as to whether or not it should be held. The
Bly association wanted to sell the equipment to Klamath
Falls and make it a civic enterprise. There , were , some
negotiations to this end but they fell through. -
,, But what of next year's Rodeo? It is to be perpetu-

tion going-to. continue or will the ' people of Klamath
Falls take it over?" ,-
These are questions which" are bound to come. ud in
uie coming monins. But now is the time to settle them
once , and .. for all.. If the Bly association, wants the
people of Klamath Falls to take over the Rodeo, nego

be definitely-settled many, months in advance of -next
years- KOdeo. .... , : -
