liunyun logged off Iho Klamath val
ley. It was the toughest Job he ever
had; for although tho logging of a
little piece of ground like that
didn't bother Puul In the least, get
ting the logs up Klxth street bo nil
to dump them into Lake Ewauna
und boom them down tho Kluma' I
river to the ocean was almost Im
possible. The first part of tho log
ging was easy: but the last part
was bud because Klxth street got so
rough that Lube shook all the log
ging trucks to pieces hauling logs
over it. Paul got around this by
going a round-about way. Ho pulled
his logs around tho foot of Hog
back, through Hot Springs addition,
und brought them down Oregon ave
nue. Oregon Avenue turned out to
be Just as bad as Sixth street and
he hud a tough time getting the
last logs in.

Holiday Shutdown
Shortest In Years
PORTLAND, Ore., July 8. The
Fourth ot July shut down of saw
mills this year on the west coast
was the briefest in years, accord
ing to reports received here today
oy the Loyal Legion of Loggers and
Lumbermen from various dlsirlcis.
The reports Indicated that 90 per
cent of the fir saw mlll resumed
cutting Monday morning. ,
The reports show, however, that
logging Is comparatively Inactive,
and more than SO per cent of the
fir camps operating today. The lujor
turnover at the mills was one of the
lightest In years.

Kwauna Box company's shook ware
house yesterday noon was undoubt
edly caused by - some workman's
'after-lunch cigarette. The shook
warehouse Is very ciol, and a pleas

machinery of any kind In the ware
house, no waste, and no chan:e cf
fire In any other way.
The fire is a splendid demonstra
tion of the efficiency of fie auto
matic sprinkler system. The dam
age, which icoordlng to company of
