during tlio month of May amounted
to 91,788.109 feet. This is an in
crease of 29,427,329 feet orer the
same month for the yenr 1924 or
an increase of nearly 32. Of this
amount 62.000,000 feet was cloared
from Portland and 39,000,000 feet
jTrom Astoria. As was the usual
case, the larger amounts of foreign
and intercoastal shipments cleared
from Portland while the larger
amount of domestic shipments clear
i ed from down river points. One
' surprising Item in Portland's ship
ments was the fact that coastwise
shipments were larger than either
the foreign or the Intercoastal. This
is not usually true of Portland's
shipments. Lumber shipments from
Portland the first five months of
t
J 9 25 have been much greater to
domestic porta but not as large to
foreign markets. A year ago we
'were in the midst of the large ship
ments to Japan due to the earth
quake there and the records made at
.that time In foreign shipments are
liable to last for some time. Dur
ing the month of, January alono n
1924 shipments of 05,000,000 feet
wcro made from Portland of which
more than 40,000. OOu feet were de
livered in Japan. The intorcouslal
and coastwise shipments from Port
land however have showu a very
gratifying Increase duriug this year
and every month so far has shown
an Increaso over tho same month
of the previous yenr. More than
37,000.000 feet mora have been
shipped this year to these ports and
during the same period Inst year,
Tho figures for the Columbia
River show that mora than 3,000,
000 feet per day were shipped from
the Columbia Kivor and eliminating
Sundays and holidays the amount
placed aboard steamers each day ap
proximates 4.000,000 feet. An in
teresting shipment clearing during
June was the Atlantic whieh cleared
on the first with 3.391,206 feet of
lumber destined for various west
coast ports in South America such
as Peru and Chilo. This is a large
shipment for any steamer to take
and a particularly large one for this
district. It consists of fir and pine
lumber and fir timbers. Other items
carried by this vessel wcro flour,
cereals and dried fruit.
Tho West Keats of the Oregon
Oriental Line cleared on the second
with a cargo consisting of 3,779,757
feet of lumber tor delivery in Japan,
China and the Philippines. This ves
sel also carried flour, newsprint and
other supplies for this district.
Another shipment of interest this
month is one of 2.S00.000 feet of
piling and lumber for Guaymas,
Mexico. Shipments to this port have
been quite regular during the past
two months.

The advantage of this method

Having been appointed sales agent for
certain lighter-than-air machines, I now
wish companions in misery.
I am prepared to offer special induce

in flocks or singly. Demonstrations will be
cheerfully given some time next year, as
soon as I can find out where to put the parts
I now have left over after working six
months assembling my own machine.
Have not tried as yet to fly my machine,
but the catalogue and blue prints accom
panying it say that it will fly, hence am con
fident that action will soon be forthcoming.
I would recommend early registrations,
it being quite possible that for one reason
or another I shall not be in a position to talk
business after my initial flight;

X Buy Dad a Tic
! Father's Day
't
June 21st
"'
The third Sunday in June hig been set aside
as Father's day, a day in whieh Fathers are
to be shown an occasional special honor. (Let
us suggest, if you observe this day, as it is
being done nationally, that you buy Dad a tic.
Don't ask father
what he wants:-
But give it to him this time. Poor old Dad
often the most neglected member of the family
however he is not to be overlooked this time
for there is a tie or something for every Dad in
town.
