CASPKK. Wyo., June 10.
Twenty tank curs containing gaso
line wero derailed In a wreck near
Glendo, Wyo., today. Investigation
by officials disclosed total damage
estimated conservatively at $100,-
000.
After numerous explosions all of

Mrs. Evelyn Stevens, 26, waitress,
Vancouver, instantly killed.
The injured woman, Mrs. Chris
tine Bowdln, 23, Vancouver, was in
hospital this morning suffering
from cuts, broken bones and pos
sible fracture ot tho skull.
The automobile, a heavy sedan
crashed head-on Into a street car
on Union avenue, thoroughfare lead
ing to Vancouver. According to ac
counts received by tho police it was
travollng at o high rate of speed
and swerved to tho wrong side of
tho street, without apparent reason
hitting tho street car.

16 (IP) At least fifteen are be
lieved to have been killed and i tent to kill, will be filed

Twisted by lightning and under
mined by heavy rains, the tracks
gave way beneath the train and
the cars and engine pilej up on
one another.
Reports said the train carried
182 passengers, mostly aliens from
Chicago en route to Hoboken,
where they were said to - sail for
Europe today. Most of them were
asleep when coaches pounded upon
one another into the steam and
Bcaldfng water bursting from the
wrecked locomotive.
The engineer, fireman and con
ductor were killed. Fifteen bodies
have been taken from the wreck.
First reports made to the board
of public utility commissioners by
Lackawanna railway officials said
three had been killed and 70 injured.
In this r-port it was said that
lightnib- lick one of the rails,
throwing' it 'out of place, that a
landslide duo to the severe storm
had covered the rails and that the
track also bad been undermined.

Portland, who was recaptured yes
terday after escaping from the
county jail, waa successful in a
socond break lust night. The boy,
on his first attempt, pulled a board
through the Jail window and used

through. lie was recaptured and
upon being returned to jail was
placed in solitary confinement.

Burke are at the Klamath
Valley hospital. Kendall was
shot through the arm above
the elbow with a .39 caliber -

man called the sheriff's office, stat
ing that she had been fired on by

Sheriff Hawkins and Deputy Ken
dall left for the scene. Whon they
had been gone about 10 minutes an

office, advising that F. O. Toolo
had been held up by throe ' men on
the highway. .
Approaching the scene, Hawkins,
and Kendall observed the light truck
drawn up' beside the highway and
stopped about 50 feet from it.
Kendall, on approaching the truck
climbed into the back seat of Hawk

Mrs. Wilbur Jones this afternoon
received a cablegram from mid
ocean from her son, Carl Newbury,
saying he would . arrive in two
weeks.
For the past two and one-half
years - - Mr. Newbury nas . occn
abroad, being employed by tho
Admiral-Dollar . Lines Steamship
company, acting as manager of
the passenger department of this
Oriental line. For IS months he
was stationed at Shanghai and lost
October was transferred to Manila,
where he has been ever since.
Mr. Newbury will be well remem
bered here, where he graduated
from the local high school, later at
tending tbo University ot Oregon,
majoring in business administration
and foreign trade. Shortly after
graduating ho left for abroad and
this will bo his first visit home.
Mrs. Jones expects he will come di
rectly home to visit her.

cutor and will havo as his op
