Calcium Cyanide Proves Worth As Squirrel Killer Tests of Calcium cyanide con ducted yesterday on squirrel colo nies on the Geary ranch in Wocus marsh proved its effectiveness as an exterminator, in the opinion of C. A. Henderson, county agent. Henderson issued a word of warn ing about tbe use of the poiEon. "Calcium cyanide, when placed in contact with wet earth, liberates a deadly gas,'' he said. "Care should be used in han dling it. The cans should not be opened in a closed room and care should be tuken that none of the liquid is allowed to remain on the clothes. Its power is best demon strated by the fact that an ounce, placed at tho entrance to a squir rel den. liberates sufficient gas to kill any squirrel that enters -the hole for a period of 21 hours." 10 the lover of the Colonial, this de sign will make ? strong appeal.. The gambrcl roof, .ilways charm ing; gives additional space in the attic that may be utilized tor a billiard room, a play room for thi children, or divided into two bedrooms and a bath, there by gaining more space and greater use at a slight additional cost The low sweeping lines of the house adapt it to any location. It would look as well on a narrow city lot as on the farm, on the hill side as well as in the valley, and should ap peal to those who wish their home to appear to have grown up with its surroundings. Careful consideration of color and texture of both brick and mortar joint is all that !s fur ther required to make it a marked success. Broad and low, imparting its coolness to the balance of the house, the porch is here the dominant feature. Its wide, easy steps and brick floor give a feeling of hominess. Connecting the dining room and kitchen is a breakfust room, a cheery little spot just a step from the kitchen. The kitchen, ar ranged for modem requirements, is small and compact, with a cupboard that takes tho place of a pantry. The enclosed rear porch accommodates the refrigerator, keeping the ice man from the .kitchen.
