As an instance ot this secretary J amine cites tne fact that' in six 'years" we reduced our wheat acreage from 75,000,000 to 52,000,000 acres. He would have the farmers kept informed as to market conditions so that they may adjust their acre ' ages to the demand ; he would have them cany on . orderly marketing co-operatively, through standardiz f ation of their produce, balanced production and a scien tific study of the wants of consumers. There is no good reason he says, why a farmer should send to market eggs of various colore, sizes and ages, when consumers show a preference for eggs of -one color, size and age, and are willing to pay well for their pre . ference. It costs no more to raise hens that lay eggs of the same color and size than it does a flock that lays an unsorted product. - The-same principle applies to dairy products. , . , ' The secretary tells of two carloads of fat cattle sold ' in Kansas City recently ; one car was of 3 year old steers which sold at $41 a head; the other of 2 year olds that sold at $91 a head. , Both had been fed in about the same way; but the younger ones were of. better blood and breeding. : Too many people in Kansas, he says, are tiying to raise the same kind of stock they, raised in-1900 on land that has increased five times in: value ' since that date. . ' ;'' ..''.;'.' ..." Any fai-mer may of his own initiative stock his farm with 'better animals,, he may make better butter, he may - raise more crop to the acre, and he may sort his small products properly ; but to get his fair share in the market he, must be supported by his neighbor farmers in setting standards and selling standard - goods in an "orderly" way,. never glutting thes market' and always giving the consumer what he wants. In this way waste is eliminate ed, and waste, in any line offarming and farm market ing is the greatest bar to farm profits. The Telegram. ; .
