Zoological Facts About Gila Monster This animal was captured in Salt River Valley, Arizona. Gila monsters seldom are found because of scarcity made by long periods between reproductions. Sel dom seen in circus menageries. Found only in the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico. They are supposed to be deadly poison. More so than rattle snake, may be, Scientists are undecided. The gila monster has interlocking back-curved fangs wJiich lock when driven into flesh. The only way the gila monster can be loosened, after striking a personals to have the flesh cut out around the strike, otherwise both die. Generally persons bitten by gila monster, which is seldom, die from effects of the strike. Whether from the monster's poison or blood poison has not bsen determined. This monster takes food but once in ten to fourteen days, and a dr ink less often. If he had a hump in his back he would make a good camel. It's coloring is protective, and hard to distinguish in its natural habitation. Principal diet is eggs, one at a time. Scientists have esti mated this gila monster to be two hundred ten (210) years of age. Each black stripe represents twenty years of lif:.
