Road Will Be V Graded Forty Miles in 1925 Concurrent with activity toward railroad construction to Lakeview Is a more, definite movement to link Klamath : Falls and Lakeview with a standard state highway. . Fprty miles of (the highway will be graded this year, according to authentic information received here today. 'With this section completed, I the 100-mile stretch of state high way will, by the end pf this year, be completed for 34 miles; graded 4 0 miles, and 26 miles yet to be j constructed. , The present program for con struction is . as follows: Grading df 16 miles from : Lakeview west to the Drews valley section: grad ing . of fourteen miles "from the Drews valley section west fourteen miles; grading of the Bly hill sec- 2 A07HOKir'Si ' Phone ' Johnny-on-the- Spot for Lumber . ' . - Grading to Start According to advice received to day from Lake county, grading - of the lS-mllo stretch of road between Lakeview and Drews valley will be started at once. This section of road is being financed and con ducted by the county alone. How ever, there is an understanding with the stav. highway department that if Lake county authorities grado this section, that the state and forest service should take Immediate steps toward the grading of the Quartz valley section ; from Drews valley 14 miles west to Devil's Garden In Klamath county. Reports that work will start on this section are sub stantiated., by the. fact that '.Lake county Is now living " up to , her agreement by grading the 16-mIlo section of road. A third grading project that will doubtless be let during the June meeting of the state highway com mission, will be the' so-called Dly Hill section. Surveying work on this stretch of road has been In progress this spring and the stage Ib set for the first tossing of dirt. The state highway commission Is anxious to connect up Lakeview with the rest of , Oregon, Roy A. Klein, state highway engineer, said on a recent visit. Present transpor tation arteries leading from lake view tend to draw Lakeview toward California rather than Oregon, and to eliminate that condition, tho commission Is directing Its attention to the completion of this projoct. Knotty Problem ' One of the knottiest problems that has ever come before the com mission will bo tho problem of re locating tho stnte highway between Dairy and Bcatty. . At the commission meeting of May 28 this question Is up for final settlement. Certain road engi neering authorities have advocated that the state highway from Dairy to Bedtty be ' changed. Instead, of being routed around through Bon anza, they advocate a direct road to Beatty, holding that the distance between Klamath Falls and Lake view, would be shortened consider ably and also that maintenance cost of the highway would be lessened. However, the state highway from Dairy to Bonanza- has all ready been completed and relocation of the road would mean that several miles of the surfaced road between Dairy and Bonanza would have- to be abandoned as a stato highway road. Another argument for the Dairy-Bonanza-Beutty route is that the state highway would tap greater population centers. t" w ,- , 1 1 1 i - " LIONESS SNAPS AT THREE CUBS; GREAT DANE IS NOW NURSE BERLIN, May 21.
