SUBSCRIPTION Delivered by Carrier .. .. Ope Year .. ,.........$6.50 Six Months ................. 3.50 Three Months '. ... 1.95 One Month ......... ....... ...... .65 Wednesday; THE WHY OF THE RESOLUTION , It has been puzzling, many why the Strahorn crowd were satisfied with the passage of a resolution, granting permission to the 0. C. . & E. to , lay 'its tracks across Sixth street. It is supposed by many that, in order to secure such a right, an ordinance -will be necessary. " ; But such is not the case.'' .. ' ' '' ' tl will,be remembered that sometime ago Mr. Strahom made application to the Public Service Commission p Oregon for permission .to. extend the lines of the 0. C. & E. to the terminal site ;: also out through Mills addition and up Link river. He was informed at that time that the permit would1 be issued only after, he secured the consent of the city to such extension. The Eublic Service Commission is1 the only 'body in the state that has the power to igrant to the 0 C. & E. .the authority to ex- - tend its line.-' ' .'..' . 'v ; , The Herald .wants to warn the members of the , council and the;,people of .the city 'generally, that if tthe .O- C. . & E. is successful is securing 'what it is after, 'it will be impossible for the Hill line. to-come closer-than three, and one-half miles 'to Klamath. -Falls. There,; is.a feeling :;exjstep,t,ihat, "Oh! they -will come in anyway:" 'This vis !.a mistake. Tne. Hill line is not going to spend hun dreds of thousands of dollars to fight its way' Into Klamath 'Falls, ry, .v. ; . vr . . '-. . . It is coming here, pnmarily,,ifor, the tonnage that will be derived from lumber, v The business to -be I secured from this city will be;. infinitessimal,; as compared ..with lhat secured throughout' the' county. If it can come -here with the expenditure of a reasonable sum of money, it will. come; otherwise, it will be -content to remain .writhin three and one-half miles of the city. If this happens, the history: of : Jacksonville, Oregon, Yreka, California and hundreds of other-towns throughout, the nation will be repeated. ;; .Klamath Falls will not become the .great : railroad center, it can be if its citizens awaken to a full realization of what is going on. . ' ' -;. Go to. your, councilman j and tell- him "to 'change "his . attitude. Let him know what you, want. ' Ask him to turn a ,deaf ear .jto .the pleadings :of the .Southern Pacific . and listen to the voice of the people. . Let him know . that Klamath Falls wants tlie Hill lines and. that he must not be a party to blocking their entrance to this city. TODAY'S CROSS fa nfr"T"" ri " : , ,' l LbJ a .
